For the umpteenth time, I have instituted exactly one ban. Valoria.
Everything else -- two suspensions, both temporary, and two additional warnings -- all have come from the mods, who have acted within the authority given them under the rules. The only difference between then and now is that we have a few people who got their undies in a bunch and decided to try pushing it.
I got suckered, yeah. But the mods have instituted their own ban on Valoria, under the rules, so if I lifted my sanction theirs would apply, and acting outside the mods' authority is what got me into this mess, and it seems to be that's what you're demanding I do.
Acting outside mod authority a second time would worsen the problem, not better it.
And no matter how much you alarmists pile it on, I am -not- going to do it.
And for all your comparisons to Jester, if he had taken this much shit from you lot, this board would already be shut down. Which also is -not- going to happen unless and until the finances no longer support the board, or it outlives its usefulness.
This board has been run and will continue to be run according to the best judgement of myself and the mods. They will not always act with 100% approval of the users. In fact, they rarely will. Consider that some participants of the forum say banning Valoria was right, but suspending Jecks and Rsak was not. Consider that others say banning Valoria was wrong, but suspending Jecks and Rsak was right. Consider some say all were right, consider some say all were wrong. There is a diversity of opinion here, and nearly as many opinions as there are people.
Did they or I make bad choices? Now and then. They and I have made mistakes in the past, and we will again in the future. The shrieking of the harpies here will not prevent it, nor will it make recovery from such any easier.
And if you think I'm being defensive and egocentric (the latter being a tautology), then all the more reason for me to not override the mods, because my judgement would be impaired. And since I'm taking the heat, and they're not, I'll leave them to exercise their best judgement, and act on their instructions, as I have both prior to and since the Valoria incident.
The fact remains that the rules are clearly posted. You may disagree with them, or how they are being interpreted; that's your right. But if one chooses to flout them anyway, one should be prepared for the sanction in response. Of course you may not. The mods and I are not 100% vigilant, we don't see all, we aren't paid to do this, it's not our full time job, and we do miss things. Most things, in fact. The alarmists would say that shows bias. But not one single PM has been sent to myself or any of the mods in months pointing out a rules violation (except for massive spamming or the like). In fact, outside the odd request for an IP check, the only messages I get are questions about account validation or lost passwords.
So essentially the alarmists seem carry an expectation that the mods and I read every post and check it for rules violations. This simply isn't going to happen. Not even I read every post on the board, and I -- obviously -- use this place more than anybody.
Well allow me to try to disabuse you of that. Doesn't work that way. And on a thread where the flames are flying high is no place to point it out -- we simply can't keep up. If you think something needs to be addressed, the mods and I can be PMed or emailed. And right now, there's so much misinformation flying about this forum that I can't keep everything going on here straight, and I'm pretty sure that you guys aren't either.
Sometime in the future, a review and clarification of the rules is in order. But it's not going to happen now, not while tempers are high, not while the jackals are prowling.
For now the mods and I are going to continue to do what we've been doing, and try to do it objectively despite the insults, accusations, arguments, and general vitriol. We may fail at times. But you're just going to have to deal with imperfection.
One mistake I'm going to correct straight off is to no longer add fuel to this fire. Ergo, this is the last public statement I have to make on the subject.

For the record, my only real objection (and the only thing I have harrassed you about) was the Valoria banning. The lemmings that followed knew what they were doing and ultimately got lesser punishments than they deserved.
On a side note, I have never expected you to pull a "Jester" as even you must understand that it is V-Day for Valoria the minute you do. I also have not taken any shots at the mods as they obviously don't have the final word on anything that goes on here and there are no consistent rules to apply even if they did.
It was still a bad decision and it is compounded by your unwillingness to overrule the bad decision. We all know when you break the rules and make a stupid mistake it would be "wrong" to break them again to rectify the mistake.

I'd personally prefer Valoria was unbanned but geez get over it. He's a big boy and he can handle it. I'll miss some of his posts. He could at times be truly insightful, ok it was rare but there, and he managed to make me laugh frequently at the way he suckered people in. One of the best trolls we've had since Nillon and the art of the one word rant. I don't think he should have been banned.
