Riggen,

Completly agree, but those numbers are the closest thing we have found that actually comes from Sony.

The site is lovely and has pretty charts, but where is the source for those numbers? The site offers insiders feeding him information for companies unwilling to make these numbers public. Just because he claims to be an authority ont he matter does not make it so.
End the hypocrisy!

Certainly true. The site's operator comes right out and says it himself. Yet there's more rigorous method involved there than in a character count. Further, the numbers it lists substantially agree with information that has in the past been made public from the companies listed. Thus while I don't take it as gospel, I do lend it more credence than any other nonofficial source on the net.

Here are some new statistics regarding the growth of WoW's playerbase, taken from Blizzard's own community site. The article is dated January 10th:
This holiday season, demand for World of Warcraft was so great that more than 600,000 copies of the game were purchased by customers in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. With so many copies of World of Warcraft installed, the game went on to shatter all previous concurrency records in North America, achieving over 200,000 simultaneous players during the holiday period.
There's also a press release which can be viewed here.

I'll try to dredge up some post-holiday figures for EQ2 later.
