Ahh, I see. You mean to define "law of the land" as "whatever Keebler believes it should be". There is no shame in it, many people do it. Pragmatically, however, the "law of the land" is legally defined as "whatever the USSC says it is". And historically, "the law of the land" is defined as whatever stare decisis has been. As you can see, agreeing with your position on a given matter is neither necessary or sufficient for something to be considered "law of the land".

I just read the article you linked, Embar.

"Like most Oklahoma Democrats, I do not believe Governor Dean shares our values or is the right person to lead our party at this time," state Sen. Debbe Lefwich, a DNC voting member, said Thursday.

What an amazing admission, the DNC doesn't share Howard Dean's values. /boggle.

One interesting effect of a civil war of sorts (and I actually mean civil) inside the DNC would be to see the party split. The odd ramifications for the Republican party is that it would potentially create a similar situation to what British politics current enjoys- a sidelined liberal-democrat party, a floundering Conservative party, and a centrist Labour party that enjoys a constistantly large share of power, even when it adopts unpopular positions in foreign policy.

In other words, if the Democratic party splits, it will be the Republican party (and it's democratic counterparts) which ultimately will pay the price.

Did you also read the part about where they allowed people off the street to come in and speak for a candidate? Only two of the everyday people who spoke didn't support Dean.

The DNC is (and has been for a very long time) out of touch with mainstream Democrats. This is why they tend to self-implode during elections.

It's not the DNC, it's the Democratic Leadership Council, an influential faction of the DNC which came into power with Clinton. Unfortunately they learned the wrong lessons about Clinton's success. The next few years will be a fight to excise the DLC from the DNC.
