And for the really partisan amongst us, imagine your party ran someone truly, hideously awful, that you just couldn't vote for. Pick at least one person from the other party you could grit your teeth and go with.

wow, why hasn't anyone mentioned Guilliani? A McCain Guiliani ticket would be 100% unbeatable. McCain would use his nationwide support to win many votes, and Guilianni would guarantee the NYC vote, which is huge considering they always vote Democrat.

And why would democrats want Obama or Hillary? Hillary can never become president because she is way too polarizing. People would come out in droves to vote for and against her. And as for Obama, its too early for a black president. Also, I doubt Obama will last that long in politics in terms of advancement. He is too flavor of the month to do so. He was a Convention Darling, but you can't live off that for the rest of your life. He has to put in decades of work in Congress to provide a track record, etc. I can say the same thing for Edwards. People just like having older established politicians as president. Also, with a more established politician, they can do more things (best example is LBJ and him calling in ALL his favors to pass Civil Rights legislation because he lead the fucking Senate in the 50s; without LBJ and his experience, we wouldn't have any of that stuff).

A Giuliani ticket would be hardly unbeatable. People forget that he was almost out of office in NY thanks to his personal scandals until 9/11 happened.

Oh, and LBJ wasn't elected. So if Kennedy doesn't go down, do you get the Civil Rights Act?

Anyways, on to the picks.

Most likely Rep: McCain.

If Kennedy wasn't shot, then no, you wouldn't have the Civil Rights Acts of 64 and 65. They were JFK's dream, but LBJ was the sole force in slamming those Acts through Congress.

Clark would not be a good candidate against McCain. Clark's main selling point is his service record, which McCain beats hands down. Clark would do better running against someone with a lackluster or nonexistent service record so that he can push the fact that he was a general further. Running against McCain he can't do that.

Another thing, I don't see how the Democrats could introduce a ticket if McCain/Guilliani was the Republican one. The democrats simply don't have the proper players to match up against those two right now. I'm not saying they never will, but right now the stars of the Democratic party could not match what McCain and Guilliani have going for them in this point in time. And your point about Guilliani is unfounded. I would say most people in NYC don't care about his affair and dumping his wife etc compared to their ideal of him after September 11th. However, I highly doubt Guilliani would ever try and push his role as MYC mayor too far out of deferrence to that tragedy.

Current Stars of Democratic Party:

Clinton: Would get the faithfuls of each party out to vote (for/against) but wouldn't be able to get the fence-sitters.

Edwards/Obama: Way too young.

Dean: Still too close in time to the 2004 debacle (justified or not, its still there)

Clark: Simply cannot go head to head against McCain, also he has no political clout and people don't know what he's really all about other than the fact that he was a general.

I would soooo vote for McCain, Powell, but it will never happen, powell does not want to do it.

So McCain is my man as long as his VP isnt a member of the Bush family unless its one of them sluty doughters of GW looking like an extra from a britney spears video.
