Re: American Mosque used to recruit soldiers!
hmm lets bench mark this a bit. Of the hundreds of thousands of churches throughout the US are we just looking at one??Partha wrote:Oh, wait, I'm sorry. Did I say Mosque? I meant Church!

Of a hundred thousand people out there I am sure we can find a more than one nut job.
Now, is it a horrible thing, or maybe someone kinda off track thinking they are supporting our country.
Is it covert? Like the Mosques secretely trying to recruit here in America? Are they trying to hide what they are doing? Saying its for one thing but really for another? Like charities for the poor, but actually paying to recuit people and buy bomb materials with the money?
I know my church does not allow any political campaining or you get a warning then booted out if you continue, even if the campaining is for something obviously very good.
My church is very anit abortion, but if come in waving an anti abortion sign, I will be asked to leave the sign at home.
If I go protest on the street and without permission, use my churches name on a sign that is anti abortion, I will be asked to remove their name from the sign, if I refuse I will be invited to leave the church.
There are thousands of churches in my denomination that all follow the same rules. You site a single instance, I cite thousands.
People scream if you try to judge the gay community by only one that is criminal, but you mocking sing onward christian soldier IMPLYING condemnation of all christendom.
Bring us more than one example if you want play your "point your finger and mock" game.

Re:
It really is irrelavant. My point was you citing a SINGLE incidence of something and mocking a whole country wide community from a single instance. Even the worst polster in the country would be laughed out of a job if he tried that.Partha wrote:How many American mosques can you point to that recruit Al-Qaeda members? By name?

Partha is the Leftwing Rsak, and this post confirms it.
The recruiting material perhaps was tacky, but not unexpected. This particular baptist church sponsors this mens night out annually (hence it being an annual mens night out). They chose both the venue and the topic. No branch of the U.S. military was seeking out churches to recruit in. They were asked to help support a salute to the military and they did. But it has absolutely nothing in common with terrorists in Iraq or anywhere else distorting the religions message in order to recruit members.
It idiots like Partha who ostracized the soldiers and marines returning from Vietnam in the 60s and 70s. No show of gratitude by the general population for the military or even from the military command structure to it personell is safe from Partha's grand bash the evil military machine stick.
I should probably say something more about the situation to meet a balance of fact vs. ad hominem attack, but Partha no longer credits it.

Although I find the whole thing in rather bad taste and part of the reason I don't enjoy going to churches much despite my strong christian beliefs, I really don't see what's wrong with some church deciding to have a "rah rah US military" night. Seems like both free speech and freedom of religion to me.

And it's funny, I never ostracized any of my relatives who served in Vietnam. Nor my father who served in WWII. Nor my uncle who served in Korea. Nor my sister who was in the Marines. Of course, I cheerfully and gleefully ostracize the nonserving chickenhawks who are bound and determined to thrust people into a war they have NO intention of serving in....and entwining religion in it.

I guess if you assume Chistianity has not evovled over the last 1000 yrs you can continue you blame todays group with what was going on in the dark ages.
Lets go condem Itally for the Roman Empire we are at it.
I suppose you could blame me for what my ancestors did 1000 yrs ago as well, it thats how you want to judge things.
It gets kind of old though, and doesnt show much creativity.
