PlayStation Portable: March 24, $250
Maybe you don't remember, but last October, we told you the Sony PlayStation Portable would hit U.S. shores at the end of March and cost around $185. We hate it when Sony makes liars out of us. It will indeed go on sale March 24, but for $249.99, not $185. Of course, back in October, we didn't know it would be able to do word processing and maybe e-mail, play movies (it comes bundled with a copy of Spider-Man 2 that will play on the device), and do your laundry. But what about the games?

I'm not. I'm still wishing I hadn't bought my Dual Screen yet. $250 is too much, as far as I'm concerned. And who the fuck needs word processing, e-mail, and all that crap on a fucking portable game system? It's like cameras on phones - if I wanted a digital camera I'd go buy one (Which I did).
Even the DS is kinda overcomplicated for a hand held gaming system. The touch screen capability is gimmicky and not very reliable, in my experience. Trying to use a stylus while holding the damn thing is an exercise in anger management, especially when you're playing a game that requires quick reflexes, and you can't maintain a good hold on the system with the stylus in hand. Trying to use your fingers to activate the touch screen doesn't work - it doesn't always recognize the contact, and many of the "buttons" you need to push are too small to accurately hit with a fingertip. Basically, the DS was a hundred-and-fifty-dollar gimmick. There aren't even any good games out for the damn thing, and one can only play the Metroid demo that came with it so many times. It's a glorified GBA for me now, but I will admit the picture quality even on GBA games is crystal clear.
Anyway, I expect the PSP will be equally gimmicky. We'll have to see what kind of games it has at launch, but even the best selection doesn't justify the price tag, imo. I'll be waiting a few years for the price to come down, if I ever even get one.
