I feel bad for the video journalism folks. Video journalism is often about attention span, looks, sound bites and entertainment. It involves both sound and visual presentation. Since most people dont record video journalism, its not like the paper you can read at your leisure or when you are in a thoughtful mood. Sadly that makes TV news vie for prime time spots and has to compete with pure entertainment programs. It becomes entertainment market driven. TV news also has to produce to the least common denoimator, those that have the shortest attention spans.
The printed news, is less about whether the guy/gal looks good and more about are the ideas presented well enough to convince you to buy the paper. If you are looking for in depth news you read the whole thing, if you are short attention span guy, you skim the front page. Much different world.
I am tring to figure out how the internet will mature into this market. I lets you have both video, audio and print. I lets you select a little or a lot. It lets you search for related items easily. But it requires you sit at a computer or some other large screen to really use it effectively. It is not yet mature in my opinion. It has the potential to exceed paper and TV mediums. Perhaps it has already.
And now I see the differing mediums within the internet. Single authored blogs, to AOL or Newsweek web sites that take a team to produce a single article with associated pictures, links, animations and sound.
It aint like the olden days when one just had to decide which paper to buy, thats for sure.

You're missing the story Walrus:
This person was NOT a reporter, they actually appear to be a gay male prostitute. They were also one of the 6 people allowed to view highly privileged information about CIA personell (ie Valerie Plame) when at least someone in the white house knew there is no way in hell they would pass the security clearance required to see that data.
So, yes, it's a big deal when the white house is paying gay hookers to look at classified documents.
Of course, unless you think that's the way a country *should* be run?

Really understanding the issue would require Walrus to do more than just dip his toe in the pool. Probably too much work.
Here's something you might enjoy Walrus:

/shrug... so they let a gay hooker look at some stupid "classified" CIA bios. Still don't see this as a big deal. The funny part is how badly Relbeek is trying to make it into a big deal. The usual Republican shills aren't coming out because this is a really boring story. I mean seriously, its getting no news coverage whatsoever by any of the major networks, and you think people care? They don't.

They *paid* him to, but that's beside the point. I also wonder why you have classified in quotes - the documents were classified, end of story.they let a gay hooker look at some stupid "classified" CIA bios. Still don't see this as a big deal.
So, you do think this is the way a country should be run? Interesting.

Re: hmmm
Actually, this story is still in it's infancy. I agree that the White House paying "media" to advance their agenda doesn't have the sexiness to get the general public upset (crazy as that is), but possibly using those sources to leak classified CIA information?superwalrus wrote:The usual Republican shills aren't coming out because this is a really boring story. That's pretty damn close to treason. And it's certainly more important than semen stains on a blue dress.
