Idly curious thought here. What degree of magnetic force does an MRI exert?

I read here (http://science.howstuffworks.com/question698.htm) that it's 0.5 tesla to 2.0 tesla, with 2.0 being the most powerful allowed for medical imaging.
That's a ton of magnet considering the earth's magnetic field is 0.5 gauss and 10,000 gauss = 1 tesla. I always thought it was an exaggeration that a MRI can pull pins and screws out of bones, but I believe it now.
If you're at all interested in magnets this is an interesting read: http://www.dansdata.com/magnets.htm
