Taxes...

Post by Taxious »

I'm trying to get a small return via some W-2 forms I received. I filed them online and got an e-mail today stating this:
Your tax return e-filed through No 1 Discount Tax Return Service Llc
has been rejected by the IRS for the reasons explained below.
Reject Code - 0679
I looked up on the page what this means and I can't figure it out...
0679:

Authentication Record – When the PIN TYPE Code (SEQ 0008) is
equal to “S” or “O”, the Primary Prior Year Adjusted Gross
Income (SEQ 0020) must match the Primary Prior Year Adjusted
Gross Income on the IRS Master File.

Exception: When the Filing Status (SEQ 0130) equals "2" (Married
Filing Jointly) and the Primary Date of Death (SEQ 0020) is
significant and the Secondary Date of Death (SEQ 0040) is "NOT"
significant on the Tax Return, the Spouse Prior Year Adjusted
Gross Income (SEQ 0050) on the Authentication Record must match
the Spouse Prior Year Adjusted Gross Income on the IRS Master
File.

When the Filing Status (SEQ 0130) equals "2" (Married Filing
Jointly) and the Primary Date of Death (SEQ 0020) "AND" the
Secondary Date of Death (SEQ 0040) are significant on the Tax
Return, the primary Prior Year Adjusted Gross Income on the
Authentication Record must match the Primary Prior Year Adjusted
Gross Income on the IRS Masterfile.
I'm a single college student with my parents claiming me as a dependent.

Contact the place you filed through. They should be able to narrow it down.

Did you file electronically last year?

It says that if I contact them for help they charge 40 bucks... I think my parents did it last year and I have no idea how they did it.

Go low-tech.

1-800-829-1040 is the IRS helpline.

Some questions:

Have you talked to your parents about this?

Did your parents give you any type of support? (money, clothes, car, food, a place to live rent free for 3 months)

All it seems to be saying is that the number you put in for last year's income doesn't match the number you filed as your income on last year's return.

I thought that too, but I looked at my last two returns and they don't have the previous year's income at all.

The first time my accountant electronically filed for me he assigned me a PIN number that's used for tracking the return through the IRS I guess. I'm wondering if maybe that PIN number doesn't match?
