I agree that the Chinese communist government in a way is no better than some of the right-wing Japanese. The protests in China in the last two weeks weren't staged, but rather fueled and intensified by the Chinese Communist party. They're simply using the Chinese people and its nationalistic pride as a political tool to tell the world that they oppose Japan to become one of the permanent UN security council members, in addition to recent dispute over natural resources drilling rights. The Chinese government primary motive is money and ability to maintain its own power.
However, I really don't think the Japanese governement is doing the right thing either. Some Japanese are still disputing having committed the atrocities in China and many places in Asia during WW II. The younger Japanese generation never gets to know the truth on all the crime its country committed during WW II.
The thing that really bothers me is that, unlike the German government, who actively educates its own citizen about its past and take steps to prevent similar atrocities from happening again. The Japanese government is still somewhat trying to cover up and deny its war crime. I don't think that they deserve a seat in the UN permanent security council unless they are willing to come clean and face the world.
