If they follow through it is just a matter of time before someone with standing contacts the ACLU and this gets litigated. My guess is that the Courts will bar the course and recognition of that fact is why no other public school district has tried this in the past. Although the reasons are more complex than Relbeek can easily outline on this Board the courts have been very clear about barring religious instruction in public schools. The elective vs mandatory nature is also a non-issue based on past court rulings if I am not mistaken (I am sure one of the prolific linkers here can check that statement out if so motivated).

If you want your children to take a course that centers exclusively on biblical study (whether for "philosophical" or "theological" purposes) private schools will most likely remain your only option. Hope this school district has lots of money in their war chest if they intend to push this issue as I suspect the ACLU will be eager to push back.

Keyword here is....

Texas.

Why should we even care? Let the hokey dokeys do whatever they want. If they want to learn such useful knowledge like how to turn shit into wine and how to part oceans, more power to them!

This'll decrease the number of Jebs getting their 2+2 college credits in elective courses that actually may help them.

If it's optional, I see no problem with this. I know its a tough pill to swallow Relbeek, but hey look at schools in the muslim world. It could be worse :-p
