Precisely.

Less so with zone revamps, though.

A lot of things are less raid oriented now. Spells, gear, zone access, access to the raid zones even. *You don't even have to raid some of the raid zones.. grouping in the zone works fine.

Most progression requires a group nowadays. It's just a matter of developing that close knit group of friends you can count on.

EQ may have changed for the worst a few expansions ago, but I feel it's picking itself back up again. The biggest thing about the game was it was constantly changing, it wouldn't stay suck forever.

I don't know Xil, I'm sure there are people like me who remember not getting a croc group in Oasis and knew how not to go batshit crazy from it. I'd probably give it a try if I had any idea where my EQ disks were and if I wanted to.

I'd probably play on a classic server just for a chance to do things I never got to do. I've always been an expansion behind, so for me its just been a game of trying to do things in the past expansion that no one else wants to do.

Just download it if you're so adamant about trying it out.

http://everquest.station.sony.com/trilogy/download.jsp

Either way, you get back into it and realize how much of your modern convienience is gone... and suddenly you just won't care anymore. It'll be the return to 50 man Venril Sathir raids and bugging druids/wizards for a port. Say what you want, but nobody will stick with it even after all these years of bitching. The only people who will, are the ones who wanna start all over and finally get their chance at being in an uber guild, because it'll be the only shot they'd ever receive otherwise.

I would totally game on a classic server hands down. I dont think it's about not being in an uber guild or anything but just the memories of EQ being fresh and new. Plus I'd get to level in crushbone again, hootie hoo~

Only problem would be it's not really fresh and new because you and everyone else have already done it. I agree with Xil that it would end up just being a level to fifty, then get in a guild and raid stuff that people kill easy today. I think there is some fun to be had in that, though, possibly a week or two.

[quote="Casters Realm"]There will soon be a 'not a classic server' server. This server will begin with only the original game unlocked at first. As groups or guilds defeat certain triggered encounters, new expansions will become unlocked. It will be a no-transfer server so everyone is starting off at the beginning of the game. All the new non-expansion features will be there like chat channels, LFG, and new UIs, but features such as Plane of Knowledge won't be active until that expansion is unlocked. All of those who have screamed on the forums for months about a 'classic server' will now get their chance to put their money where their mouth is. It sounds pretty interesting and SOE is expecting it to be popular. With some core features removed that we take for granted these days like the Guild Lobby, Nexus, Knowledge, Bazaar, and LDON Magi, it will be interesting to see how much old-world people are willing to take.[quote]

OOo, I'm excited. No, not for uber wannabee reasons (I raided planes, dragons in 99, being one of the first paladins to get full Valorium).

But, here are my pros and cons, figure them out for yourself

-Split Paw and Cazic reset to old world style
-Spending hours hooking up with friends scattered about Norrath
-They better fix the boats; SOE has all but abandoned boat functioning since PoK.
-Old world zones no longer a ghost town
-If the tutorial is included this will largely defeat the entire purpose of the server.
-The EC Tunnel back in service !?
-Lower level content actually challenging absent post-classic buffs, equipment, and xp heavy zones.

I could go on but have blabbed enough.

SoE abandoned the boats in about Velious lol. Boats probably won't be fixed, after all that would take away from the "classic" feel ;)

The classic thing would of been if you were fixed before you had your kids. Now that would of been classic feel.

It'd be better than the 0 (zero) you're batting now.

Its true, you are pretty insulting, to whichever family of monkeys you belong to. For shame.
Energy is neither created or destroyed, so it is fairly safe to assume the particles that make up your body will exist forever. We are all eternal.

you know, I could sit here and dodge parry, jab and it would seem inventy and funny, but you guys have really lost your touch. It's not even fun taking shots at any of you lately.

What happened to the firey fights where the community combined to try and fight me off? Where is Fatass to defend his little women? Whatever happened to days of old where the cut throats of Rants would make each other gasp in horror..

Oh well, I can only think of those fun days.. to this rather thin shell of it's replacement...
