i'm sure alot of you remember me. i was never in the loop of most hacks that went on in enshadowed but i was certain there was some. the worst thing i ever did was vastly exploit the pathing on the deathbones close to grummus in pod (thx 60-63) and with the tip off of a certain gnome solo'd talendor in skyfire down to 30% with about 40-50 necro pets... ah good times

Hello,
Not sure if any one remembers me but I’m Nikore (that crazy ill solo anything wizard guy). Reading this tread made me remember back to the old days in EQ. I don’t know who Ickhor is talking about in LOH that used showEQ but I’m pretty sure it’s me. I (ever since I found out about it during ROK) used showEQ and never got caught. Heck I don’t think I was all that quite about it. I wouldn’t admit it if you directly asked me but if you knew where to look and how to look you saw that I used it.
Some other exploits I used, lets see oh yes you could pull Phinny to the zone if you warped an eye though the wall. That’s how I got my phinny staff and some other Wizards’ phinny staffs before they fixed it. In SOV there was a place in Sseru where the mobs could not attack you but still gave exp if killed. So I would get a monk friend to pull all of them for me while I AE’ed them and got the exp. Made several of my 1000 or so AA points that way LOL.
Oh and lets not forget about the Mana Burn, and the Mana burn squad. That wasn’t a direct exploit but with showEQ I knew when everything was up and since we where wizards it took us no time at all to get there. Mana Burn its self was an exploit or at lest it should have been, I mean come on 3 wizards able to kill anything in ROK (heck I soloed VS!) we even cleared VP!
OH, on the topic of mana burn, some how when doing VP and I got rezed out my body had all the keys on it, yet I had another set of keys on me, so I had two sets of all of my keys. Seeing how ST was awakened and I got a scale I decided to take my current sleepers key and turn it in with the scale and then pick up the duped sleepers key so in essence I never lost my key but I did that quest. Got me a pretty nice ring =P
Well that’s It, that’s all the crazy rule breaking things I did while playing EQ. I look back on too it now and think its dumb (especially now that I play wow where I can’t use any of this stuff and refuse to use other exploits). If I where too restart playing EQ again I wouldn’t use any of this stuff and just enjoy the game as a game.

The closest thing to exploiting I ever did back in the day was receiving a Linkdead screen after opening a trade window with an NPC. After I came back on I purchased a gem, a jade I believe it was? Something fairly cheap.. Anyways, I looked at my inventory and noticed I had the exact same amount of money before I purchased the gem. Curiosity set in and I purchased one just to make sure. I was right, I could purchase any item from the vendor without losing money. I slowly upgraded to more expensive gems to purchase for nothing and resell. I made like 100pp in a matter of moments. I was ready to make some coffee and do this all night. Unfortunately shortly after, maybe ten minutes. I received another linkdead screen. When I logged back on I had the same amount of money I had before I started buying and selling the gems but my inventory didn't roll back so I made a little bit of money from the gems that I didn't manage to sell before I received the second linkdead message.

Conanb, thats the dupe Thalun used to make his 24 million plat, and how he had a fungi tunic, funi staff, CoF, and tons of other stuff that a druid wouldnt even really need amongst his 3 sets of gear, right after kunark came out. He also made a ton of money selling plat and powerleveled characters. Sadly, most of my memories that anyone else would remember come from the boards, as I was so far behind everyone else in levels, that I never actually capped out, hitting 50 after kunark, 60 after the next one, etc. Though I do remember some good times on the boards as far back as my junior year of high school, which was over 6 years ago now. Like Fenye, Kruunch, Nillon, etc. Good time.

Hey guys, Thalun here. There were a bunch of dupes that were functional up until at least Velious that i used to make my millions (and a good 50k of real money from ebay and playerauctions). The best one that was active for a very very long time took advantage of a bug which involved the guards giving you back any item you gave to them and giving you a brief explanation about not wanting your gifts. If you spammed them with stacked items, twice the number of these would be returned to your inventory. Hence, if you filled all four trade slots up on the npc trade screen you would be returned with eight stacks of them. I used black diamonds because they were the stackable item which was the most valuable to vendors (i would just fill my inventory with stacks and sell them to vendors). You can make about a million an hour using this method.
Another method was detailed by conanb, basically you have to time it so you die at the exact moment you exit a zone, and you will zone to the other side in tact and alive with all your items and have a corpse on the other side bearing duplicate items. However, this was fixed very early on (before kunark). Another that possibly may still even work (you just have to be knowledgeable about folks who were around when the server opened). Is to create a character with the same name as one that was created within about four hours of the server opening. For some reason, any character created in this time did not have their name reserved in the system, so it was possible to create a naked level one character bearing the same name. Now if you stand by the zone and continue to zone until they zone at the same time, you will be transported to whatever zone they are zoning into and suddenly be whatever level and class they are, as well as having all the equipment and platinum they are in posession of. This would usually make them go linkdead and their character would not be harmed, but in some cases (like when i was doing this with Rykilth) he actually switched with my character and became a naked level one. Some of you may remember his post on the subject, but it was fixed afterwords and I stopped using this method after this because i did not want to ruin other people's time in the game. There are about fifteen more methods i know of that worked at one time, but i wont go into detail about them.

Re: The Dark Side of Brell: Another Nostalgia Thread
Not to resurrect an 8 year old thread; but I think that bard may have been me. (Soloice)Wolfex wrote:Those were good times indeed, Ickhor. I did it as well, and I actually knew about you doing it, but like you said, everyone kept "hush hush". It was that bard (You know who I'm talking about, but I wont mention his name) who showed me it, but I programmed my own macros, etc...I am most proud of in EQ is when I made a level 1 mage one day, and then raided Rallos Zek with Enshadowed at level 63 with her that night. I only knew of one other person across all servers who knew about that bug
In the event it is; that sweet sweet program called MacroQuest spurred me on to becoming a game developer myself; so all is not as bad as it would seem with programs of that nature.
I forgot the name of the NPC in grobb too; so now I can't see if it's still there on progression servers that just opened, oh well /grin

Re: The Dark Side of Brell: Another Nostalgia Thread
The first code I ever wrote was some 8086 assembler in 1987 to crack the copy protection for a game called Ultima II. A friend loaned me the 5 1/4 game floppy which I didn't have the money to buy (working at a warehouse), so I figured out a way to crack it. After that I was hooked on coding. I did a lot of cracking/hacking for hire after that for a friend's seedy computer company but in the end it was the draw of a steady paycheck and full bennies that did in my black hat career.
So I guess it's a natural progression from "black hat" to "white hat". You grow up and priorities change.
