So true on that quote.Dlaet wrote:Probably one of the best movies I have seen in awhile. Imagine a Where the Wild Things Are film, City of Lost Children, Schindler's List, and The Wizard of Oz all mixed in a big bowl, with some Jim Henson, Kubrick, and Stephen King movies added for flavoring, then cooked in Guillermo Del Toro's brain.
Just saw this last night and I have to say, it was great.
Eh....I just want to say one thing but I really hope it doesn't come off as a "spoiler" (If this does, then Dd by all means can edit this post if he pleases.) but the movie is in Spanish (Spain). But they do have subtitles so it was easier for me to be able to follow along with the movie.
But the movie is great in my opinion, but I hope those who plans to see this enjoys this movie as well.
For those who did see it, what did you think of it?

I just saw the movie this afternoon and loved it. I might have been expecting too much because I didn't think it was that great, but it's definitely worth seeing. I thought the movie was going to be a lot different than it actually was, so it was kind of a letdown in that sense. Less reality and more fantasy plzkthx!

******SPOILERS **********
Did anyone else who saw this get kind of annoyed with the whole Christianity allegory? "If I follow the rules, pass some tests, I then get to spend eternity in a life where there is no pain or suffering with my father!" It doesn't make me mad that it's there, but it makes me mad that theme is so overdone.
A friend and I were arguing about weather or not other people could see the stuff she could see. I just assumed that it was only her that could see it because of the end when he stumbles around the corner and doesn't say "WTF?" with her standing in front of the faun. The only real evidence that other people could see it was the root under her mom's bed.

Saw it last night. Amazing
Hid my eyes and buried my head during the violent scenes and about cried at the end but it was exactly how I thought it was going to be. Loved it!
Actually, a lot of the movie is about obedience... and disobeying for what you think is right.
Take the doctor, he gives that whole line on obeying right before the Captain goes after him. Mercedes too, with fighting for the side she thought was right. Ofelia disobeyed the faun, which was the final test. Doesn't that contrast Christianity? The whole story of God says kill the son and the father obeys God? Ofelia did the exact opposite by not letting the faun hurt her baby brother. She chose to protect an innocent rather than obey the higher power.

I can agree with that, Saevrok.
IMO I don't think it had purposeful ties other than the underworld-kingdom theme which could have been based off heaven... but a paradise like that isn't solely a Christian idea. If you think about it, you could tie most stories/movies to Christianity even if they weren't meant to be.

Uh... Do you know how many laws and people Jesus "disobeyed" in the pursuit of what he thought was right? If anything, Christianity teaches that you should do what you feel is right and holy, even if it's against what society tells you.Select wrote:Doesn't that contrast Christianity?

Well I was placing Pan and the whole kingdom thing on the level of God and from what I've heard of Christianity, (since I barely practice it) it's always obey God above all else.
But that can go with what Saevrok said too, it could be interpreted so many ways. However, I still think it wasn't purposely going for a Bible connection.

I adored the costume for Pan. I know an extremely talented, budding costumer and I think she's the only one who loved it more than I did
Interesting thing I learned about it was the legs were not digital, but part of the costume! They were attached to the actor's legs and he would puppeteer them. They then removed the actor's real legs digitally. IMO I don't think the movie would have been the same had Pan (and the pale man) been digital. I love knowing that they're really there interacting with the actress and again, the costuming was gorgeous. ^_^
(I hope the above is true about the legs. I only read it online)
