Is it a mod to Quake like the first one, or a stand-alone game? TF1 was some good times...

It's part of the "Orange Box". It's based on the Source engine, but a very different feel to HL2.

Edit: The "Meet the XXX" videos give you a good idea of the tone and playstyle of the game.

Mmm, orange box. Must get its deliciousness for the 360.

I saw a video on Portal and thought it looked like a ton of fun.

The Orange Box looks like it's going to put out.

That is a pretty good review. I know I suck at the Pyro as well, but a well played Pyro can defend some maps like nobody's business - especially in parts that are close-quarters.

Actually, I suck at most classes but it's still a lot of fun!

I mostly played sniper and engineer in TF1 - good times.

Any idea of what system specs required by the source engine? I figure if all my desktops can play Vanguard, they can pretty much play everything, but I'm curious about whether my laptops can play it.

Didn't realize that TF2 was only a beta, but 8 years in the making it's probably solid. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

Pretty low, far as I know. Source itself is Half Life 2, so it's not exactly top-end. I would guess any system capable of running HL2 with most of the bells and whistles on would have no problem with TF2.

I've been playing about a week or 2, and I can say tf2 right now is the best team based FPS I've ever played. No vehicles to fuck things up, very fun rock/paper/scissors esque class system, and very well designed maps/themes throughout. I could play this game for years and not get tired of it. I think that says a lot. The game is a total 180 from Team Fortress Classic and I love it for that as well. Also, if you've somehow managed to avoid half life 2 this long, the amount of content you get for $45 (presale, $50 after for PC, $60 for 360) is pretty insane. Probably the best gaming value ever in one box.

As far as playing it on the 360, only response that comes to mind is LOL. Its still player hosted, meaning console games max at 8v8 with no PC users in your games. I cant imagine playing a game at this pace well with a controller (no I'm not one of those die hard PC FPS only types, but this game is an exception). You'd also likely miss out on a lot of mods and other things, I don't see the upside to the console version. It's not like the source engine is Crysis or Vanguard. And I wouldn't be completely shocked if you got to buy the new Valve maps through Xbox Live, while everyone on the PC downloads them free for the PC. To each his own though.

I know Shadowrun is crossplatform multiplayer, it works out really well.

As far as FPS with controllers, I've gotten really accustomed to it. Even mapped the key bindings to a 360 controller for WoW and it actually brought some life back to the game for about a month and a half.

Once, long ago, I loved playing a Pyro and sticking it to slow turning Heavies. Might have to give this a try.
