So I reformatted off of a Dell Windows Reinstallation CD from my stepmom's comp. I did the whole thing where you call Microsoft and tell them you reformatted and need a new key, etc.
But... I have this button and I can't get rid of it. Clicking it says it can't find the file and right clicking says "Welcome to Dell" and then it does the same thing. I just want it off the bar.

To uninstall Dell Solution Center, perform the following steps:
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
The Add/Remove properties window appears.
3. In the list of installed programs, click to highlight Dell Solution Center from the list.
4. Click the Add/Remove or Change/Remove button, depending on your operating system.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions to remove Dell Solution Center.
6. Restart the computer if prompted.
I did, fool, and what I've seen so far doesn't work, since I don't have Dell Solution Center on my programs list. I'm searching through more links, but I figured some Brell Ranters may know in the mean time.
Bah. stuff is saying to edit the registry... there has to be something else.
Right click the task bar >> Properties >> Start Menu tab >> Customize >> Remove
Then just find the offending icon and get rid of it. It that doesn't work go under Advanced rather than Remove and look though the All Users profile. And if that doesn't work unhide folders and look through Default User.
the "dell solution center" icon can alternatively be removed from the start
menu as follows:
right click on task bar and select 'properties' and the 'taskbar and start
menu properties' window will open. select the 'start menu' tab. select
'customize' button and the 'customize start menu' window will open. select
the 'advanced' tab. scroll through the 'start menu items:' list and locate
the check box next to 'manufacturers link'... uncheck the 'manufacturers
link' and click 'ok' to exit the 'customize start menu' window. select
'apply' and then 'ok' in the 'taskbar and start menu properties' window.
Here is how you remove links such as the Dell Solution Center and other OEM links from your start menu:
1. Right-click the Start Menu and choose Properties
2. Click Start Menu tab, 'Customize', 'Advanced' tab
3. In the 'Start Menu items' list, uncheck Manufacturer Link option
4. Click OK, and OK.
Yep, just got to that listing and it worked. No reason for the registry stuff.
