I got the documentation translation blues

Post by Klast Brell »

The company I work for has it's main engineering and development staff overseas. They produce documentation for the products in their own language then use some cheap thing like babel fish or Google translate to convert it to half assed English. Then it gets handed to me to change it in to fully assed English.

This is the section I'm working on right now. I'm getting so frustrated trying to make sense of it that I want to smash my computer.

Better hope to god your company doesn't find someone overseas who can do what you do. Be grateful you have a job.

And try dumping the whole thing into MS-Word, and let the grammar/spell check tool fix most of the glaring issues.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

That text really isn't so bad. If you get too frustrated, just go to engrish.com to lighten up your day.

I pity the poor people that have to suffer with the English text we run through babelfish when we send out game builds.

I seem to remember that the definition of 'tech manual' is 24 pages of Korean limericks printed upside down.
