SSD To Get
So I'm noticing that the SSD's are finally getting 'somewhat' affordable. And I'm looking to get one to run my OS on, which means 32GB or above. The thing is I'm noticing some seemingly pretty big differences in performance. From what I gathered bang for buck is Samsung's right now. Anyone wanna weigh in?

Anything but SanDisk? Really not sure about that though.
Not even sure SSD would help or hurt on your system drive. The performance characteristics are pretty complex when comparing to just putting more memory in.

I thought using an SSD for the OS would be a bad idea since the continual usage of the same files would max out the write capacity and fry that area of the drive? Thinking of virtual memory here.

Hell no, not on the SSD's that are out now. The write span on them is way longer than most of my normal platter drives last. Still not anything you'd use for long term storage, but in my opinion that is exactly why they are perfect for your OS drive. I core dump that thing once every 3 months or so just to clear out the bullshit. All my storage are on magnetic drives.

Re: SSD To Get
SSDs hace firmware that automaticaly shuffles heavily used files around so that no one area gets hit hard.
By the time it starts to wear out Cheap SSDs will have 5 to 10 times the capacity and speed and you will want to upgrade anyway.
How often do you change drives now?

Re: SSD To Get
My drives usually peter out about 2 days after the 3 year warranty expires. I'm all about getting the SSD, I just want to get the good ones. And from all the reading I'm doing it looks like Samsung is the one to get right now.
