Re: Individualism vs. collectivism
Can you define your terms?
Everyone on the board is an individualist who also finds society to be important to varying degrees. Nodoby is going to fit neatly to one term or the other.

That takes the fun out of it.Lurker wrote:Everyone on the board is an individualist who also finds society to be important to varying degrees. Nodoby is going to fit neatly to one term or the other.
Basically an individualist vs. a collectivist is:
Individualist believes: Only individuals have rights, not collective groups. A group only has as much power as individuals allow it.
Collectivist believes: Individuals only have the rights that the state allows
An individualist leads by example, a collectivist will use coercion to force people to obey rules.
An individualist believes in equality in law, a collectivist believes in equality through law.
An individualist believes the proper function of the state is to protect, not to provide. A collectivist believes in the redistribution of wealth via taxes to provide for the members of the state. I.e. charities vs. welfare.

People don't fit absolutely in one or the other.

I think you'll find your answers if you read the Politics section. And as everyone has said so far, people won't fit neatly, but crossover issue to issue.

Re: Individualism vs. collectivism
I would probably say that at the Federal level I am an individualist (using your terms and definitions), and at the state and local level I am a Collectivist.
I firmly believe that help/charity is best rendered by the people closest to the need.

I think he's Ddrak. He praised himself by name and now he's burying the evidence with phony IP checks.

All Australians are imposters and criminals at some point of their lives.

Didn't your mama ever tell you not to tango with a carrot?

He's Ddrak. The denials and the fake IP check prove that.
