so..is there a difference between the American Wii and the non American Version? I see the ashes 2009 is out for the wii and wonder if mine would play it.

The Wii is region coded. I can't play foreign stuff in my Aussie Wii (for example, Rock Band 2 has yet to be released in Oz). The PS3 is the only completely non-region coded game system out right now.
