It sounds helpful, but I want to see the opinions of others here who've had more experience with loans. My private is about 6% and a friend has a 14% because the gov. wasn't enough.
Not sure what input you are looking for. My Stafford loans when I was in college were 8% and I believe my Plus loans were at 10.something. I would have to dig through my loan papers when I get home to get an actual figure.
Much like healthcare though it begs the question......when are we going to tackle out of control tuition rates rather than worrying about the government backing/issuing loans?

When I refinanced, there was a rider that said the interest rate would go down if I made my payments for 24 months straight. I'll have to check when I get home, but I think I'm now paying about 1.75%....
Well seeng as tuition rates have been historically climbing at double the rate of inflation I think there needs to be tuition reforms but I would hope it could be done at the state level, not federal.

My school started a program that freezes your tuition at a flat rate for the entire duration of your degree plan. I don't know what you have in mind as far as lowering tuition prices go though? Either tuition is raised or the state has to fund the school more, and that's a whole additional argument.
The money would boost Pell Grants for needy students, increasing the maximum grant by $1,400 to $6,900 over the next decade. It also would pay for a new college completion fund, community college reforms and more college aid for veterans.
I don't understand this either? I already get ~6000 from my pell grant. Do they mean per term? Per semester?

I wish ours would do this. I've had friends who've had to leave before the 3rd year because of this. Our president is also the highest paid in the country from what I've been told. That could have changed, though.
