My school did similar things in regards to Bush senior and Bill Clinton. We didn't sing songs, but we 'wrote' them and had huge posters of them in our classrooms.

When I was a kid, I was forced to go to mass/church/Sunday school. My 2nd elementary school, our class would open with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance. This wasn't in the south, this was California of all places. Wanna talk about indoctrination?
