Stargate Universe Returns April 2nd

Post by Kliban Nimbledigits »

This is the only Stargate series that I have enjoyed. Unfortunately it seems to suffering from the 'Firefly" curse. I didn't even hear about it's return until yesterday. I even bring myself down a few notches to watch other things on SyFy.......god I feel dirty for even typing it that way. Not a peep from them either.

I can't wait to see how Dr. Rush handles his situation.

I need to get caught up on this series, I think I'm a couple episodes behind (last one I watched was the "time traveling" episode). I've never really gotten into stargate stuff either until this series, but I love it now. I hope they don't take it off the air!

I just started watching this, so far I'm really enjoying it (just 4 episodes into the first season).

I'm so glad this show is back, I loves it! Seems like every episode has something fun and creative to keep you interested.

Also - I wouldn't mind a "tick" that makes me hallucinate like that!

Finally got around to seeing the mid-season ending. Just how many cliffhangers can they jam in one episode?

Srsly!

I'm almost done getting SG-1 as I've never seen it and hear it's way better than Universe.

Weren't people just bitching about all the lame Stargate shows in a thread this year?

I'd LOVE for them to be good (better than Universe would be awesome, because I enjoy Universe), but I haven't heard anyone here gush about or recommend them.

Anyone have feedback on the various Stargates? How about Atlantis?

I've enjoyed them all.

SG-1 felt like it was just dragging on toward the end, maybe the last season or so. I wasn't a big fan of the Ori.

Atlantis was fun and it was cool to see them in a new place, but it wasn't really so different from SG-1.

I really like Universe. I'm glad they took a chance and got away from the standard "go through the gate, stop some bad guys, come home" idea that SG-1 and for the most part Atlantis had. The idea with Atlantis was cool because they were mostly stuck there, but it's not nearly the same as they way they are stuck on Universe.

It's hard to rank them since Universe is really the only one fresh in my mind. I still think I'd put Universe first, then the first seasons of SG-1, Atlantis, and then the last couple of seasons of SG-1.

I'm kind of interested in Stargate because people from Farscape and Firefly are in either Atlantis or later seasons of Stargate.

Do you have to watch the other SG's to get into Universe?

I've never watched any of the other ones and I really liked it. I saw the movie a long, long time ago so I have a tiny basis for the premise, but I don't think it was all that necessary.

Not really. I have seen maybe 3 full episodes of any other SG series. Just never got into them. SG:U only started using mildly required information from the other SG series in the last 3 episodes but explained it well enough that if no one knew who they were talking about they still understood it.

SG = Farscape killer.

Can't get into it, though. It feels too much like SeaQuest DSV to me.

I'm having a hard time getting into Stargate Atlantis. Dr. Weir is awful, her acting is so painfully bad, it completely removes you from the story. Oh look someone reading ...lines...to me

Anyway, I forced myself through 3 episodes so far and am wondering if it gets any better. The Wraiths are interesting and I really wanted to make it through long enough to see Jewel Staite's character come into the show - I think around the season 3 finale.

Not that anyone needs an update, but just in case someone else who liked Stargate Universe feels like dipping into another SG - Stargate Atlantis does get better. I'm still not a huge Dr. Weir fan, but I have grown fond of the rest of the main characters - Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Beckett and Ronan.

They end the seasons with huge cliffhanger-catastrophe-unknown deaths though, so I'm glad I didn't watch it through it's original broadcast...I hate that shit.

SG:U Returns next week, Sept. 28th. Once again I didn't hear about it until a week before hand and I haven been watching Eureka all season. Not a peep about SG:U until last night.

Anyway, 3....or was it 4 arc cliffhanger to close up?

Well.....I am mildly disappointed. 2 of the 3 cliffhangers are just fixed with either a "Er duuuuuhhhhh" mentality, I.E. Scott and Greer evade death by *gasp* going to the other side of the ship to not get cooked OR not explaining anything at all and just giving us "It wasn't really that bad", I.E. Chloe bleeding out to unconsciousness only to be up and limping and feeling fine 10 minutes later with this wound that was gushing for hours suddenly not bleeding.

This is the third "We couldn't think of anything so we won't bother with that story arc anymore" they have pulled. Who can forget the grandest one of all? Scott, Chloe and Eli stuck on a planet at the furthest edge of the galaxy and Destiny jumping out of range and leaving that galaxy. A whole episode of them scrambling to get back and it's to late........only to find out at the start of season 2 that they just pop back on to Destiny and say "We just back tracked to another gate blaa blaa blaa and found our way back here. WTF! The gate they originally entered was the last one in the galaxy before hitting dead/nothing space. The last gate in range of Destiny yet they backtrack to a gate even further away and make it back to the ship with just a "Hey."

Sorry, venting. Were the other Stargate series this haphazard?

I've liked the last couple of episodes. I'm glad they stopped with the horrible musical interludes in the middle of the episodes to eat up time, those were driving me crazy. Luckily I have the power to fast forward!
Hidden Information!
I especially liked the crew members coming back as temporary living beings only to find out that they all died on the planet. Interesting.
