Black Swan
I saw this yesterday - was pretty interesting. I love N. Portman!

I'm sold. Requiem and The Fountain are two of my favorite movies. I have a lot of respect for Aronofosky's ability to tell a compelling story and Natalie Portman's ability to act (When she's given adequate direction), so I'm all over this one.

Re: Black Swan
I had yet to meet someone who LIKED "the Fountain," until now.
I loved the film. I love me some eastern religions and the Hinduism/Taoism imagery and symbolism were absolutely stunning.
Didn't he also do Pi?

Yeah. I'm pretty sure Pi was his first, but I've yet to see it all the way through.

Re: Black Swan
This is one of those movies that you ponder about for a while after watching it. I laid in bed last night thinking about her life and her decisions in the film and how they are very similar (although not in the ballerina setting) to one of my best friends. He's in his late 20s, living at home, and has much of that same ten-year-old mentality of "I have to please my parents before having my own life" as she did in the film.
I want to see the movie again, now that I know how it ends.

Re: Black Swan
I finally saw it and thought it was pretty good. Not as compelling and dark as Requiem for a Dream. I was more impressed with Natalie and Mila's transformations into believable ballerinas (especially Natalie's).

Re: Black Swan
I can't find anything near me that's playing it.

Re: Black Swan
They just opened it up to popular theaters here instead of only showing it on the indie ones. Maybe the same thing will happen in your area Jaro.

Re: Black Swan
2/10
OMFG. I hated it. This was an incoherent jumbling of nonsensical imagery. Literally. The last half hour made absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. It kind of had a plot up to that point, even if it was completely uninteresting other than the soft core porn. How are we expected to empathize with Nina when she's the worst kind of whining, insecure sniveling twit? How are we expected to believe her as an actual person if we see no other side of her beyond this? And why does the whole movie feel like a poorly veiled "drugs are bad" after school special?
Fucking Christ. I really wanted to like this movie. I really, really wanted to. But I can't enjoy what isn't there, and there's jack shit to this story. Whiny ballerina takes ecstacy, hallucinates murdering her rival, then kills herself simultaneously in her dressing room and on stage. Party Monsters told this story better, and I want my 2 hours back.

I somewhat agree with Jar. I would give it higher than 2/10 but probably not more than 5/10. It was just barely interesting enough to keep me watching it, but honestly even most of that was because they kept hinting at someone getting humped. I think this movie got a lot of hype because of the lesbo scene, but it failed to deliver well on even that.
