Over 500 longshoreman storm a facility, take hostages, damage train equipment and dump grain.
How many arrests? Zero. But they certainly violated several laws, most of them class B felonies or better in the State of Washington. Sabotage, assemblage of saboteurs, malicious mischeif, kidnapping in the first degree, criminal trespass... probably missing a bunch more.
The ironic thing is, the union was protesting work given to other union members. Classy. Just another reason why I think entitlement organizations like unions need to go the way of the dinosaur.

Looks like some angry people. I will reserve judgement, but on the surface it looks as though these people were lawless and violent. If so then they should be prosecuted.
Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater, however. We don't disband the U.S. Army every time a few of them get out of hand do we? So why would we force the unions to "go the way of the dinosaur" when a few of them get out of control?

You don't understand, MeGusta. Employers are entitled to a docile and compliant workforce and the unions are upsetting that entitlement mentality.

I think any employer should expect to not have its employees taken hostage, not have its goods spoiled, and not have its equipment damaged. I know you were being sarcastic, but I gotta say, the lack of the left commenting (Lurker, Partial, and sad to say Harlowe now) speaks volumes about this. If this was a sotry about a bunch of white rednecks terrorizing a farm that employed less-than-legal labor, you can bet Lurker would be in here all high and mighty about that.Ddrak wrote:You don't understand, MeGusta. Possibly, but I doubt he'd suggest making it illegal for rednecks to get together at all.If this was a sotry about a bunch of white rednecks terrorizing a farm that employed less-than-legal labor, you can bet Lurker would be in here all high and mighty about that.
No one is suggesting criminals shouldn't be treated as criminals, or even organizations that conspire to criminal activity shouldn't be torn apart, but to say that all unions are bad because a few here and there are is a bit wide of a brush for me.
I think unions are an essential counterbalance to the employer having essentially total control in a commodity workforce environment. I also think a unions often forget that "actually having a viable company to provide the jobs" is a pretty damn important part of labor relations.

It speaks nothing. You're like the boy who cried wolf and you came to an absurd conclusion. MeGusta's comment covered everything I would have said so I didn't see a need to add anything.Embar wrote:I gotta say, the lack of the left commenting (Lurker, Partial, and sad to say Harlowe now) speaks volumes about this.

Re: Look for.. the Union label...
I think Ddrak and MeGusta cover it and the "oh, I'm disappointed or it's telling that I don't hear anything from Lurker, Harlowe" etc etc line, is just childish. Not funny ha-ha childish, but petulant, demanding, cater to me childish and you keep doing that. It's like cyber foot stomping. The board isn't made up of trained monkeys (maybe just monkeys) that have to jump up to defend or respond every time you have a boner over the same topic over and over again, it makes people apathetic and "meh" about the topic when you do the same thing repeatedly, like you're trying to win some topic war of attrition simply by wearing people out having he same circular arguments again and again.

I think I could have taken you serious if you would have levelled the criticism equally.
But you didn't...
