Aussies on US election
Pretty accurate perspective, if you're interested. Of course, I think you shouldn't consider our political views in your own, just an interesting side issue.

Ddrak,
What is the news media like in Australia? Do they accurately report the news, or are they stenographers like the U.S. news media.
Somewhere along the line the news media in this country lost the plot. Instead of fulfilling their function of providing the public accurate information, they simply repeat what each side is saying. Between the stenographers and the outright propagandists it's no wonder the public is so misinformed and support for both parties is evenly split.

One does start to wonder, though, if the Republicans have finally reached the breaking point, even with our mentally challenged media: The AP is reporting on the general vacation reality has takenfrom the GOP convention. And I'm sure Sally Kohn will be unemployed shortly.

Hey Dd... what does "swingeing" mean?
There is a big risk attached to a Romney presidency, Garrett says. If the US political system is unable to reach a compromise on how to cut the US deficit, it will send the country over the so-called ''fiscal cliff'' of swingeing automatic cuts in spending.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

I was pretty sure it would be "Corporate Puppets trying to get Fat Lazy Fucks to vote for them so they can make laws for Corporate Criminals"

Adj. 1. swingeing - severe; punishingly bad; "swingeing taxation"; "swingeing damages awarded by the judge" - With, apparently, undertones of unnecessary, excessive, and wrong-headed.

Well, Rupert Murdoch started his empire here if that helps you...Lurker wrote:Ddrak,

It varies wildly. Corporate interests control most TV media (Seven, Nine, and Ten networks) and the Fairfax group controls all major print media. The ABC (government owned TV station, parallel to the BBC) is hit and miss - some good news and some blatant Union bias. All a pretty ordinary state of affairs.
Fox has a complete cable monopoly but free-to-air is still much stronger over here than cable.
The pure hype and fact-free-news of the US cable stations doesn't exist yet but it's definitely heading that way.
