Sure I get it they don't represent mainstream Islam. They still suck.
U.S.: WTF Libya?
Libya: Our bad.
U.S.: O.K. we know they don't represent you or Islam, we are sorry for our white privilege. Would you like some foreign aid?

If thousands of years of religion has taught us anything, it should have taught us by now that there is no such thing as a "religion of peace". Religion has been used as a tool to oppress and punish as equally as it's peaceful endevors for it's entire exhistence.
People are responsible for their own hate-fueled, violent actions, but you also might want to look at the inflammatory film that is causing the riots "Innocence of Muslims" created by Israeli-American real estate developer and possibly linked with Pastor Terry Jones. It might have a little something to do with this current hate-a-thon.
I don't think that excuses this situation one iota, but the kind of shit we put out in the world matters. It effects people. We can't change a culture where violence is an acceptable response to just about anything.

I think poverty mixed with Fundamentalism and the need to defend religious beliefs, even violently if necessary, is the foundation of shit. That's why I don't want Fundamentalism ANYWHERE fucking near power in this government. If candidates feeling the seperation of Church and State go to far, or that there isn't enough "God" in politics doesn't scare you, you're daft.
It breeds ignorance, poverty and violence. It's anti-science, anti-public education and if you don't believe what we believe you are "Other" not worthy of the same consideration or rights.
This is scary shit folks.

Created by a "Self Described Israeli Jew". Pastor Terry Jones has been promoting the film, had nothing to do with its creation.

Everyone should be anti-public education, given the state of Education in this country since the government got involved.Harlowe wrote:It breeds ignorance, poverty and violence. It's anti-science, anti-public education
Clarification: (Not the Public being Educated, that can only be good for everyone; but government funding Public Education has only hurt the education system in our country).

Not to take away from any of the other lives lost, but I've followed Eve intrique for years because my guy plays, so this one was a little more "holy crap" to me since I have read about him for years. Sean Smith (aka Vile Rat) was a larger than life character in Eve and he was among those killed. He was online when it happened, with his last two messages being "Fuck" and "Gunfire". Here's Mittani's post about him.

Additionally I think you're kidding yourself if you think this attack was due to an inflammatory film. This was 2 Embassy attacks on the anniversary of 9/11. This is the Caliphate rising.

This is also why continuing to fixate on the terrorist victory that was 9/11 is just opening the entire nation up to more and more hurt. It makes about as much sense as having a huge "never forget" day on April 30th for the Fall of Saigon.f
Terrorists do what terrorists do - look for vulnerable points and inflict maximum damage for minimal costs. Solution - DON'T BE TERRORIZED!

Oh I don't think the date is a coincidence, I think the film (the trailer translated into Arabic) was used as tool to incite to get the result on this particular date. But yes, the film was a nice tool a radical here created and used to incite radicals there.
I agree with Ddrak absolutely on the foolishness of fixating on this date. One problem is that if people in office don't obsess on it, people running for offfice will use it as a tool against them displaying what an uncaring, un-patriotic 'Merican, Arab-sympathizer they are. They catch flack for not saying "God" or "prayer" enough in their damn platform. Our political stage has created this ridiculous circus side-show of tragedy.

It's going to be interesting to see where the money leads (the $5m to make this) back to. There is some speculation from a self-proclaimed consultant on the film that it's Ex-pat Egyptian Coptic Christians, putting it on Israeli Jews.
Unless that's someone else trying to steer the blame elsewhere. Real information on who "Sam Bacile" really is, isn't clear.

Romney apparently thought this would be an appropriate moment to falsely attack Obama, and then double down on the lie at a press conference this morning. So far, only Sarah Palin, RNC Chair Reince Priebus and Newt Gingrich are deranged enough to follow Romney's lead on this. Stay classy, wingnuts.

Unreal, they freakin lied about the apology. The apology (for that film) came from the embassy itself trying to diffuse the situation earlier that day and stay safe. At least I'm hearing a lot of backlash for his buffonish statement.
Listening to interviews on the BBC, it sounds like the small Libyan security force LEFT because the people on the ground there determined they could not handle the situation/crowd. So these Americans were on their own with just our own security (I think hired not our own Military). A witness living next to the embassy said it was very apparent there was no security force there at all, they had been seeing a strong show of force up until last night but then suddenly no one.

Looks like it's leading back to this Nakoula Basseley Nakoula guy, a Coptic Christian.
http://www.theatlantic.com/internationa ... an/262316/
So he poses as a Jewish Israeli-American developer claiming he had 100's of Jewish backers.....what is this guys freakin game? Just to attack Muslims, but do it from behind a phony Jewish persona so he doesn't bring negative attention to Coptic Christians?
So today the embassy in Yemen is stormed. I hope we don't lose any further lives in this shit situation.

The performers say they were deceived/dubbed over. I bet their lives are going to be in danger as well.

I think that was very wrong of them. The focus should have been on the loss of a very experienced and needed diplomat, a person that dedicated himslef to the cause of diplomacy, and was very good at it in a region where we need people like him. I'd bet my last dollar that Romney, if he won the election, would have left the guy in place over there. The real diplomats (te ones working in places where people don't really like the US, not some gem post in the UK or Australia), are apolitical and work for the interests of the nation as a whole, not for a party. Romney was wrong to politicize this. He should have taken the high road and used the opportunity to highlight what a difficult and sometimes dangerous work being in the foreign service can be.Lurker wrote:Romney apparently thought this would be an appropriate moment to falsely attack Obama, and then double down on the lie at a press conference this morning. I think he definitely would have come off more dignified and "Presidential" if he had responded in that way.

Romney couldn't resist the chance to blow the birther dog whistle, that's all. Blow, baby, blow.
About this whole thing; Yemen, Egypt, I'm really 'whatever' about these. No one got hurt, and haters gotta hate, etc. Shooting prostesters up over an insult leveled in a culture that historically neither had to deal with free speech, nor restrain themselves when it is exercised would just harm the greater missions of the embassy.
The Libyian attackers, though, that's something else. They brought rocket launchers and heavy machine guns to play. That's deliberated crime, and I hope the CIA and whatever Spec Forces the president sends to back them up can pry them out of whatever hideyhole they're sitting in, put them in chains, try them, and let them dance at the end of a rope - I don't want them shot, shooting them in a military engagement gives way too much legitimacy to criminal scum like this.

They are, but 5-10 guys with M-4s and a max of 900ish rounds in hand vs several thousand protesters ends poorly, and hurts the diplomatic mission.Raelesyn wrote:Arn't American Embassy's guarded by U.S. Marines? Its considered sovereign (sp) U.S. soil right?
And again, the Libyan consulate was different. They didn't have Marines and didn't have a hardened, walled building; as we haven't had an embassy in Libya for decades, and it takes time to build one. Plus, as I noted before, the Libyan criminals came ready to rock.

I beleive the death of the ambassador occured outside the embassy, while he was at, or near to arriving at, a safe house.Raelesyn wrote:Arn't American Embassy's guarded by U.S. Marines? Its considered sovereign (sp) U.S. soil right?
As to Arathena's comment... some ambassadors don't allow the Marines to even have live ammo, which kind of negates their purpose. The embassador to Egypt is currently under the scope fopr allegedly not allowing her Marine contingent to chamber live rounds. I hope that's not the case.
