Dredd 3D

Post by Kulaf »

Well even though I think the perponderance of 3D movies is fricking stupid, we went to the 3D version because there is only 1 showing of the "normal" version. Personally I find 3D movies very distracting and they don't really add anything to movies IMO.

That said.....this was a very good movie. It is an R rated movie with a LOT of violence, I would not take any minor to this movie unless you want to answer questions like......Mommy, where did that mans head go?

Not a lot of character development on Dredd, but most people who go to see this probably already know his backstory. You actually never see him without his helmet on, just like the comics. Dredd is played by Karl Urban who played Dr. McCoy in the Star Trek relaunch and Vaako in the Chronicles of Riddick. Ok well Karl Urban's chin anyway. :) He does a very good job with not a lot of facial acting to play off of.

I recommend this to any comic fan.

Surprising review. From the trailer I expected this movie to be horrible. I'm probably still going to wait until it's out on disk but might at least give it a once over.

Btw... just cause:

Well IMO this is the perfect time to support good R rated films at the theater........or we won't have any.

Red band trailer for Dredd:

And yes, that is a slow motion gernade blast hitting that guys chest.

Premiss of the movie:

Dredd is tasked with doing an evaluation on a Judge who barely failed the written evaluation test which of course he thinks should mean her automatic failure. She is revealed to be a mutant with psychic abilities to read and influence the minds of others. As they head out on their patrol they get a call to a building and enter to bust some drug users. One of the perps is a high ranking member of a local gang which control the building. Fearing what he might tell the Judges under "questioning," the leader orders the building sealed which cuts the two judges off from the Hall of Justice.....they cannot call for backup. They learn that this is the center of all Slo-Mo production which is a new drug that alters the brains perception of time causing all experiences to last much longer than normal. They must bring down the gang.......that's the law.

I definitely want to see it. I think Karl Urban will bring a much-needed changing of the guard to this role. Besides, been a big Karl Urban fan since his Xena-days, so yeah. :)

On my list.

I like supporting "R" movies, because we get so freakin few of them and I like action movies anyway, so I'm going to see it. Maybe not in 3D though, sometimes I get this motion sickness feeling from it.

Best fucking movie.

Im proud of what these guys did with Dredd. After Rocky Balboa + the guy from SNL fucked up the first one, looks like the glory of 2000AD has been redeemed.

Wow, I'm late for the boat here. But here goes.

Wish it was more about Dredd then his partner. Sarcasm for laughs is hard to do, and I wish it had a little more in the movie - it was a staple in the comic. And no, the other Dredd movie only had gags.
The 3D was forced.

But still I liked it. 3.7 outta 5.
