Robert Hutter, chief executive and president of Gazillion, said his company has a license from Marvel that will span 10 years. During that time, Gazillion will be able to make any number of online games based on any of the 5,000 characters in the Marvel universe.

Gazillion hasn’t disclosed until now that it’s the owner of NetDevil, which it acquired last year
Gazillion’s studios include Amazing Society, based in Issaquah, Wash., which is making the Super Hero Squad game and two other unannounced MMOs; Net Devil in Louisville, Colo., making both LEGO Universe, and Jumpgate Evolution and another unannounced game; Gargantuan in San Mateo, Calif., making the Marvel Universe PC and console MMO game; and Slipgate Ironworks in San Mateo, Calif., which is making an unannounced original MMO.

And now a Marvel MMO. No chance the market will be over saturated

What's left to do for the man who created Blizzard's seminal Diablo series? A promotion to president and COO of a major gaming company is probably near the top of the list, and Gazillion Entertainment has done just that with former Blizzard North president David Brevik.
Prior to assuming his new duties, Brevik served as the project leader for Gazillion's upcoming Marvel Universe title, and also was responsible for lead design and lead programming aspects of both Diablo and Diablo II during his tenure at Blizzard. Brevik dropped a hint as to one possible future for online gaming (as well as Gazillion's focus going forward) in a company press release detailing his appointment. "Gazillion is committed to developing top-tier online games. The future will be defined by console-quality games in the web browser, and we believe we can make this a reality today," he said.
Since (Marvel Universe is) going to be free-to-play, it's probably going to change about how you run it, too, post-launch. Have you been putting a lot of thought into that structure?
From my background, where we ran Diablo II and it was on Battle.net, you could play it over the internet for free, the Diablo II client server. We had to learn a lot of tricks on trying to run servers very efficiently and very cheaply because it was basically money out of our pockets. We were running those servers for free. So, I think we're going to apply a lot of those lessons learned from the way that we architected our server structure to do the same kind of thing so we can run players very cheaply.
But at the same time, we understand what free-to-play means. Free-to-play, it's like a majority of your people will never pay a dime, and that's okay. So, we're designing the game with this in mind. We're designing it so that we're going to create something that runs very efficiently technically and allows people to have a great experience. Most people won't ever pay anything, and that's alright.
nothing new but I overlooked that this may be a browser mmo

When asked if it would be browser-based, the developers insisted that accessibility was a crucial part of their game design, but they also stressed that they would be delivering a AAA-quality game.
As was previously announced, Marvel Heroes will be a free-to-play game, though no specifics are yet available on what kind of microtransaction model will be implemented to support it.
“You will be able to play the entire game, everything we have, without ever paying us a dime,” said Jeff Lind, studio director at Secret Identity.
Built using Unreal Engine 3, Marvel Heroes boasts impressive effects and animations, and presents its characters and world with a stylized, comic book look. As an action-RPG, it also employs the genre’s classic overhead perspective, and includes fast gameplay, item collection and elements of randomization for loot drops and the layouts of dungeons and combat zones.
Marvel Heroes is a free-to-play MMO Action RPG created by David Brevik, the visionary behind Diablo and a team of industry veterans assembled specifically for this project.
Marvel Heroes combines core gameplay elements of Diablo with the expansive library of characters from the Marvel Universe.
- Engage in Action-RPG-style gameplay, but in an MMO world.
- Team up online with your friends, or play solo.
- Randomly generated environments are different every time you play.

I just... can't seem to get into the whole super hero MMO thing. Or for that matter, the space / gun MMO stuff either. It may be EQ's fault, but I only like fantasy MMOs.
