Penny Dreadful

Post by Harlowe »

This is a Showtime horror series (:which you can probably already guess by the title). Anyway, I just saw the first episode and it looks promising. It takes place in the Victorian era and it's a new twist on old horror favorites like Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Grey and Dracula.

A few reservations on my part:

Josh Hartnett, right? He kind of reminds me of John Mayer.

My "oh my God, steampunk is SO AMAZING AND AWESOME" friends will not shut the fuck up about watching this, so it's kind of turning me off.

I might wait for you folks to watch a few more episodes to let me know if it's worthwhile. Then, I'll have a little time to purge my whiny Mcweirdo vibes.

Not seeing the steam-punk in this. It's Victorian and supernatural, but ....ehhh, not seeing steam punk at all. I think steam-punk people get a boner any time they see a monocle and a corset.

This is it. Exactly. And I used to think steampunk was interesting, until I met a lot of steampunk fans and cosplayers and they just rub me the ever-fuckin-wrong way. I wish that weren't so.

Let me know how the 2nd one goes. You are a good judge, imho, so I'll know if I should give it a shot.

I'm not a Josh Hartnet fan at all, but I did like the other actors in it, so I'm hoping he doesn't bring the show down. I'll let you know!

Went into it with extremely low expectations, and while I wasn't blown away, it was better than I thought. Enough that I'll see the 2nd episode.
