It realliy doesn't matter how or why other people enjoy things. It's only relative to the individual themselves not you. They obviously don't feel they are missing out, so you shouldn't obsess about it. Whether that is a movie or a meal. People like what they like.

When it comes to my time and my money, I'd rather spend my money wisely and make choices based on what I know (or at least think I know) I'll like. The odds are much better that I am going to enjoy myself operating on that principal, rather than the 99% chance that seeing a Nicolas Cage film is going to suck. That doesn't mean never take chances and try something NEW, or even give things a second or third chance, but when you've sampled it numerous, numerous times and don't like it, why waste your time and money.

Seeing as how I don't have an infinite number of hours to spend going to movies, my movie choices are going to be based on something more practical than selecting one based on the off-chance "but what if he doesn't suck".

To me it's all pretty simple whether they love or hate a particular actor. If someone enjoys an actor, well, then odds are better they may enjoy the film.

I think it does. I think such understanding might allow people to relate to one another better and it can certainly be useful to the entertainment industry itself. To put it some way that might allow you to relate, I enjoy understanding things.

I can appreciate the practical aspects of planning for limited entertainment hours--personally I rely on previews rather than a list of actors to assist in making that decision--but that still doesn't explain how the mere presence of a particular actor can make or break someone's enjoyment of a film that they've already seen. Again I'm thinking of that friend of mine and the Matrix.
