I've always been curious about evolution and homosexuality too. Obviously homos aren't reproducing, but then why are we still around in the gene pool? Maybe homos are the natural "adoptive parents" or something, not able to reproduce but able to help out the children of others if needed?
Preliminary studies have suggest that there is a family linkage between male homosexuals and women that have LOTS of heterosexual sex. It is unproven, but theorized that at least one of the biological factors that leads to male homosexuality increases female fertility, expressing in both as a strong desire to have sex with men. In other animals, the social bonding and the simple pleasure of any sex are considered to be strong factors, as well as the surrogate parental factor. (Homophobia appears to be unique to human society.)

I've always thought it interesting that some people put the cause of homosexuality purely on the social side. Yet every culture in history, despite the dramatic differences in social make up, has had gay-wads.
