I want to explain something about Super Milk Chan.

ADV Films is the US distributer, and when they acquired it, they knew that all the cultural jokes wouldn't work, so they dubbed two versions: one version being a direct translation and the other being a liberal translation so the humor would come through. When Super Milk Chan was slated for an Adult Swim run, most of us were fairly sure that the second version would be shown, since nobody on the planet would get the literal translation.

We were wrong. I still don't know if this was Adult Swim's decision or ADV Film's, but either way it's a gross fuckup. The show makes no sense to anybody who doesn't have a clue about Japanese culture and the in-jokes, especially the puns. Hell, I know quite a bit about Japanese culture and still don't get it half the time. There are way too many subtle references.

I'm not apologizing for the show, I just wanted everybody to know why it is that the damn thing just doesn't work.

I used to watch "24" but I guess it got a little old watching Kim run around the CTU office, tattling on everyone. She needs to quit that job and go work at a titty-bar. Maybe she did this season. Haven't watched it, though.

Kim isn't on it this season, thank god.

I was filled with so much hatred for her stupid stupid stupidness.

I wish they'd killed her off, just so I could watch her stupid ass die, but I'll settle for just 'off with Chase being married' or whatever she's supposed to be doing.

Deadwood is the only show I'm addicted to. I've heard Carnivale is great, but I'm the type of person that has to watch a show from the first season/episode, up to the current one. I didn't wanna jump right into the second season. Anyone recommend buying the first season on dvd?

I bought the first season of Carnivale on DVD and have recorded Season 2 on crappy VHS just to tide me over. You have to watch from the start. The only thing is, the DVD's are expensive. Get em used off Ebay if you can.

Family Bonds also rocked. Not sure what it was about the show, but I was bored one night and watched a bunch of them off the "on demand" menu. It was great!

I'll look for Carnivale on Ebay first then. Thanks, Alluveal.

Now if only I didn't have to wait another month or so for the 4th season of Seinfeld on dvd to be released.../sigh

I'm sure glad that Carnivale is on On Demand. Not that I've ever watched it, but I'm too cheap to buy the DVD's.

I loved on Demand until I got HD, now watching it in lower resolution hurts my inner child. With all the outside scenes in that show, it really shows off HDTV quite well. So unless I got a 720p unconverting HDMI dvd player.. I don't think Id' even feel good about buying the dvds.....and as it stands i'm not set to have a 720p unconverter unit any time soon :(
