i'm not a huge fantasy/sci-fi fan (except for dune) but my daughter talked me into watching this. i'm on episode 3, season 1 and am thoroughly confused. it does have a great cast, though. going to try to wade through some more of it today.

From someone that hasn't read the books, I'm pretty confused through most of the show as well. Too many names! I did re-watch season 1 before starting season 2 and that helped quite a bit. I definitely know what's going on now, the story is pretty cool.calleagh wrote:i'm on episode 3, season 1 and am thoroughly confused.

I made this a while back for the hubby.

Not sure how much it will help you. If you're into watching some short videos online, there are some awesome "historical" shorts that they made for the DVD/Bluray set that explain some of the world history in a fun way.

The shorts tell about various elements of history in the world through the perspective of certain houses.
It's a lot of names and they add a few more this season. And will add a few more next season.

Sci-fi channel (before they changed to the much gayer scyfy name) did a decent job on Dune. Just decent. But that would be my sci-fi dream - to have a channel like HBO really do justice to a story like Dune.calleagh wrote:i'm not a huge fantasy/sci-fi fan (except for dune) but my daughter talked me into watching this. i'm on episode 3, season 1 and am thoroughly confused. it does have a great cast, though. going to try to wade through some more of it today.

I still can't see how there's any possible way to follow the TV series without reading the books.Taxious wrote:From someone that hasn't read the books, I'm pretty confused through most of the show as well. I'd love to see another attempt at Dune (miniseries, not movie). SyFy did an okay job. I enjoyed the hell out of it (even the super bad special effects and the terrible backdrops.
My husband gets most of GoT, but I'm there to tell fill in when I need to.

I watch it with a few friends whom have read the books multiple times. They are pretty good at keeping me informed.Freecare Spiritwise wrote:I still can't see how there's any possible way to follow the TV series without reading the books.
EDIT:
This is awesome, thanks! I just made some connections that I didn't understand from the show.Alluveal wrote:I made this a while back for the hubby.

I think my favorite characters right now are Arya, Littlefinger, and of course The Imp.

They did a fantastic job on that season one scene where Varys and Littlefinger verbally spar with each other. The depth of the characters in the book really comes across in the series.
