I thought that Dreamcatcher was some darn good sci-fi
Dreamcatcher was a terrible book, and even worse movie (Even ignoring for a moment that it's basically a rip-off of the theme from the Alien series, with the exception that the aliens are deliberately trying to take over). Hell, The Langoliers was better sci-fi than Dreamcatcher, as was The Tommyknockers.

I will agree though that King is more than just a horror writer. Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption...just off the top of my head. It's just that most of his books are horror in nature, and most of his really good stories are, too. It, Pet Sematary, Carrie, The Shining, just to name a few.

Horror-fantasy, might be more accurate. But it was be a stretch to call him sci-fi.

I didn't care for Dreamcatcher, but I really don't like anything of his except the Dark Tower series.

that was a bad list

a scifi movie I recently saw that I think is worth recommending is Equilbrium
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/

3 things the movie can be faulted for
- rehashed storyline concepts (but it was entertaining)
- not realistic because people show emotions - just gotta look beyond that
- GunFu

/nod. Equilibrium is a good movie despite the cliche.

While we're on good obscure sci-fi, "The Cube" is worth a watch too.

The cube, is that the one where convicts are plopped into an ever changing dungeon consisting of cube shaped rooms and the only way to get out is to stay in the room you start in?
Energy is neither created or destroyed, so it is fairly safe to assume the particles that make up your body will exist forever. We are all eternal.

I don't remember them being required to stay in the starting room, but yes.

The starter was the one that would move back to the starting point, it was referenced by the weird math inbetween rooms.
