All of the science I've encountered dealing with human sexuality has different tilts depending on whether its from the perspective of a Biologist, Psychologist, or Sociologist, or any other number of ologists that throw their two cents in.
CAN it have a lot to do with hormones? Sure. CAN it be related to life histories? Absolutely. I think the most ignorant thing to say about homosexuality is that it has one definitive proximate cause. Hormone levels may cause it in some situations - I'd love to look up what the incidence of homosexuality is among individuals with Klinefelter or Turner syndrome is... or whatever the YY situation is, I can't remember its name.
In my personal experience the people that feel like telling you they're gay within 3 minutes of meeting you are the people that tend to have complicated life histories. These people also tend to be so goddamn full of drama it's tiresome being around them for too long. Much more numerous (I suspect) and less visible are the gays that broadcast their sexuality as often as heterosexuals do. I like these ones better. They tend to be emotionally stable. I wonder if that's where the term "drama queen" came from? Would certainly fit.
Basically, they told us that being from another generation was the biggest reason they "blended in" as well as they did. I've seen the exact same phenomenon with older gay men that have taught themselves over the course of their lives to tone it down. I would even say that my conservative upbringing may be part of why most heteros don't have the slightest clue that I'm gay for a while (Either they eventually figure it out, because most people aren't stupid, or I wind up telling them outright).
I wonder how many younger gay people tend to be more butch or flamey simply because thats what they identify themselves as? Its a rare person that doesn't define how they act and dress, even on a subconscious level, by what they perceive to be the standard for their identity. Doesn't help that the flamers tend to stick out like a sore thumb, either.
I like posting.
