It disturbs me. But that's the typical mindest of a public school system. I mean, lets spend a lot of money providing laptops to kids and then spying on them, instead of taking that money and teaching them to read.

I have no idea how the next generation is going to pay off the debt this generation is piling on them when all we're preparing them for is a sense of entitlement and the skills to supersize an order.

And yeah, a rich school district gives laptops to kids. My school district sure as hell can't afford to. But then again, what we lack in spying we more than made up for in bigotry and stupid lawsuits over a 20 year span.

I think the answer to this unsettled business already exists: encryption. Certainly encryption is defeatable, but then that's not the point. My understanding is that it has been ruled (I wish I had a link, but regrettably I cannot offer one at the moment) that encryption is the electronic equivalent of a "seal," which carries implications for the reasonable expectation of privacy in communications.

Edit: And I just read that article on school laptops. Wow. Just...wow.
