I don't know how many closers are in the hall of fame - I don't keep track. But knocking on Rivera because of what announcers and media have to say screams the same bias you are hating on.
He is one of, if not the most dominate closers ever to play. Wether he makes the hall or not, acting like he is no good just because he plays for the Yanks is dumb.

I went on the HoF website and of all the pitchers I only see 2 that were considered closers: Rollie Fingers and Dennis Eckersley. Ok so then I was bored and went and looked at all-time save leaders. Eck is #4 with 390 and Fingers is #7 with 341. Currently Hoffman is #3 with 393 and Riveria is #8 336. Out of the 10 ten all-time leaders in saves Hoffman and Riveria have the 2 lowest era. That's why I believe those 2 will be the next closers elected to the HoF unless Lee Smith gets in because he's got some nice stats in addition to being the #1 career saves leader.
BTW Red Sox 8 Yankees 1
Props to the Yankees for standing and clapping during the ceremony though, wonder where George was?

My point is that closers dont get into the Hall of Fame very often. I would not classify Mariano Rivera as more deserving nor more or less dominant then Troy Percival, Trevor Hoffman, or Lee Smith who is the all time saves leader, but NONE of those guys gets the kind of automatic credibility that Rivera does. Are they less deserving? Aren't they as dominant?Barrin wrote:I don't know how many closers are in the hall of fame - I don't keep track. Oh and don't even begin to tell me there isn't a Yankee / Bosox bias in most of the "experts" view, because there is. I realize that the Yankees are the best franchise in all of major league baseball history because of their great history, but there are a lot of clubs out there who are just as good if not better then the present day Yankees, and dont get any play. That kind of thing bothers me to no end. So when I hear Rivera and HOF always mentioned, but don't hear the same thing of other deserving stars, I get a little bitchy.

The answer is plexiglass walls between the atheletes and the fans, like in hockey.......or a dead area....2 walls where either has to jump over to get to each other. But thats seating no team owner will leave unused.
