Re: Game of Thrones
I'm loving that they are taking this season more slowly. Doesn't feel so much like the train screaming off the rails to get everything done in 10 eps any more.

Re: Game of Thrones
I think it was good they split the 3rd book in two. So much happening. I do wish they wouldn't cram 5-6 "areas" and storylines into one episode. It seemed to go smoother when they took breaks from various areas and "camps." Gave us more time with each group/character. Maybe they'll start that now. I did not see Jaime or Brienne in the trailer for next episode, for example.

Oh man, that last episode with the dragon and the explosive ending was awesome!

Fantastic episode. The opening and ending were just fantastic. I really enjoy watching Diana Rigg play the game as well.

Haven't read the books yet, but that is exactly what I expected Dany to do.

Re: Game of Thrones
Loved, LOVED this episode. Diana Rigg is fabulous (so is her character, I love her sharp tongue). One of my favorite episodes so far this season. It's nice to see Dany doing something, because mostly she's been whiny and all bring me my dragons and army and boats..blah blah, without really any strategy. Seemed like she just wanted others to make it all fall into place for her. So, definitely loved her kicking some ass finally and doing SOMETHING.VaziirJivaan wrote:Fantastic episode. And feeling sorry for Jaime, I never thought it was possible...but I do. I really love the interaction between him and Brienne.

Re: Game of Thrones
The kingslayer slays more than kings. He will slay your heart, too. (Insert Garrdor Hallmark comment.)
In book 3, we get Jaime's perspective and it completely turns the narrative on its head. I remember reading his first chapter and thinking, "Oh hellz no," and then, by his 2nd or 3rd chapter, I was like, "To hell with you, Martin!" because he'd become one of my favorite POVs at that point. The cool thing is that he continues to surprise, which I like. If you think about it, he's known for a few things:
1. Fucking his sister - but, in the books, you realize VERY QUICKLY from his POV that he truly loves her, would have married her, and joined the kingsguard so that he wouldn't have to marry someone else (kingsguard members cannot take land or marry). So, you kind of have to forgive him for that--especially since the Targaryens were all, "Shiz, yeah, we're gonna marry our sisters and brothers and cousins and shit."
2. He pushed Bran out the window. In the books, he regrets this horribly (though he does try to justify it by reflecting that he'd do anything for Cersei and thought that's what she wanted him to do).
3. He killed the Mad King during the rebellion (the same king he swore to protect). Why? Well, the mad king was a fucking lunatic: burnt people alive, flayed them, did shit that would make Caligula look like a pansy. He couldn't take it anymore. People had to stop with the following blindly bullshit.
It's amazing how Martin can take a despised character and make him sympathetic and likable. After book 3, he became my favorite character, hands down, with Arya a very close second. The chemistry between he and Brienne is awesome. So much is conveyed between them by looks and actions alone in the television series. They cast these two perfectly. The look on Brienne's face when they dragged her back (after NOT raping her) was one of utter surprise. OMG, did this guy just save me? The guy I hate? The Kingslayer?
Dany had her moment. It was much more surprising in the books because her inner monologue led you to believe that she was going to give Drogon (the black dragon) up. I'm a terrible "mother of dragons," I'm giving away my baby! Poor me. Then WHAM! When the slaver tried to take Drogon, she told him that dragons are not slaves, whipped the slaver's face, then ordered her dragon to burn him (and the other slavers) up. One of my favorite passages in the series.
And I agree, Dany's story up to that point was really kind of "meh." Wandering around. Oh, my poor people. We're starving and thirsty in the desert! I also didn't like how they handled the House of the Undying. They showed some truly gruesome "scenes" in the tower in the book--things that were either prophecy or stuff that had already happened:

It's nice to see her get some action in this season. Next season? I have no idea what they're going to do with her. The dragon/slave scene occurred around halfway through book 3 if I recall."Farther on she came upon a feast of corpses. Savagely slaughtered, the feasters lay strewn across overturned chairs and hacked trestle tables, asprawl in pools of congealing blood. Some had lost limbs, even heads. Savaged limbs clutched bloody cups, wooden spoons, roast fowl, heels of bread. On a throne above them sat a dead man with the head of a wolf. He wore an iron crown and held a leg of lamb in one hand as a king might hold a sceptre, and his eyes followed Dany with mute appeal."

Re: Game of Thrones
She didn't really have my attention in the books up until this part, so it's nice to see her plot line move along in the TV series. She went from ho hum to BADFUCKINGASS.
The wife still won't read Dance With Dragons. She was really butt hurt that Martin takes so long between books. But that's BS because here we are all this time later and I still can't spoil it. Yaaay for marriage.

Re: Game of Thrones
Definite win this episode, though kinda sad about Ros. Littlefinger's monologue was just brilliant, and also appreciated the extra story going into the TV that wasn't in the book.

The banter between Varys and Littlefinger was definitely some of my favorite parts of the books.

Re: Game of Thrones
There was a lapse of continuity. She had a huge gash on her neck from the bear when they first arrived. Before he got down there the bear swiped her across the face & you hear a tear/slash. She gets up & there's no wound. I think they meant to have that huge claw mark after the attack, but showed it before.
I know I know, OCD much?
Still this episode was real good. Much improved over last weeks. I'm kinda glad the show has 'meh' episodes though. Makes the peeks even better.

Re: Game of Thrones
I thought the bear scene in general was shot poorly. Too abrupt in the pacing. But, oh well. We got to see a freakin' BEAR, yo.
Robb's wife is totally playing him. I know it. (Not book spoilers, just me noticing things.)
Girl's writing to Tywin Lannister, I swear.

Re: Game of Thrones
I thought Margarey's talk with Sansa was particularly interesting given where Margarey is at the end of book 5.
It would be impossible for anything about Robb's wife to be a book spoiler at this point, given how far off the reservation the character has gone. I don't think she's playing him though - looked like average horny early-20s to me.

Even after this? (Just show spoilers. If you're up to date, you're fine watching this.)
