heh
Ahh, the old "you're making it up" bullshit.
Nah, I told you where I got my numbers. Bottom line, the trend is clear even in this thread. If you play both, unless you have some sort of fetish for pain, or OCD, you're going to prefer WoW. Even the guy who started the thread apparently took the pepsi challenge and found EQ wanting.
I don't even hate SOE really, I have lots of friends that work there and It pains me to tell them their game sucks. But it does.
And I'm never "just trolling". I both troll and spread the gospel of right thinking, all in one thread. It's the mark of my superiority.
For the record, Barrin, you should stop projecting your Nillon fantasies onto others. It is quite disturbing, and a sign of potential mental illness.

correction
Correction, Riggen took the pepsi challenge, and it was qhorinn who started the thread, minor mental lapse there.
I'll be curious to hear how he spent his christmas money.

I'm probably too biased to really be able to say I took the Pepsi challenge, Thoric. I got into the whole comparison believing that WoW would be the winner from the get-go. So it isn't really all that newsworthy that it turned out that way for me.
Last week I fought the boss guy in Gnomregan for the first time. I'm pretty sure that was the best boss fight I've ever been in, counting every MMO I've ever played. It was definitely the best dungeon experience of any kind I've ever had, and thinking back to some of the dungeon crawling groups I've been a part of in EQ I've seen some damned good ones. There was no camping, just crawling. Each new area we came into was a "whoa, that's really cool" moment.
So anyway, my group and I had to kill this evil irradiated gnome freak in a robot suit. He had a gazillion hitpoints and would from time to time hit us with a soft gravity flux and knockback. What really made things interesting is that we had to ward off a bunch of little hopping bombs with fizzing fuses that swarmed us over the course of the fight. If they got too close...boom with big AE damage. So in addition to fighting this gnomech guy we had to kill off these bombs with our ranged attacks before they could reach us. By the time the boss was dead most of the group was devoting itself to holding off the nasty little buggers.
Mind you this is a fight with a bunch of low-30's characters, and the complexity of it was easily comparable to a Planes of Power boss encounter...only with much better engineering. The fight took several minutes, but we were all so busy and having so much fun that it didn't seem nearly as long as it was. When that big freak fell I knew with certainty that WoW was my winner.

Lame Thoric, really lame.
You didn't say where you got the numbers. You made vague gestures towards retail sales, which when I checked up (you do realize they are published) it turns out that WoW was ahead of EQ2 (as I always knew) but it certainly wasn't the whitewash you were alluding to. The links are on this thread if you really need to see the difference between "fact" and the fiction you pretend is "fact".
Face it fanboy, you're wrong. You've made broad generalizations which are trivially discounted with examples (all I have to do is find one person who ditched WoW for EQ2), you've grossly exaggerated sales figures and you've put your own subjective justifications for your choice as some sort of objective reason.
When it all comes down to it, you're just and old loser who can't bear to be seen as wrong and so you make more and more grandiose statements to back up your failing argument while the rest of the world leaves you behind as the wannabe you always were. I've found no one on this thread that prefers either WoW or EQ2 that is willing to go as far as you did and so you're alone - not in superiority as you so desperately want to believe but as a joke and an irrelavent one.
Superiority? Not in a million years kiddo. Grow up. Riggen has the superior argument on this thread by a long shot and there ain't no way an old dried up fanboy like you could hope to match it.
Enjoy your fantasy though. In that world I'll grant you superiority and unbridled intelligence. May the real world never destroy your illusion - I'd hate to wish that bubble burst on anyone.

Bout week or two before x-mas i decided to go grab WoW and try it out. Ive logged onto EQ2 3 times since then. Dunno what it was, but i can deffinitly say there is more depth in WoW then there is in EQ2, and this is comming from someone that played EQ2 since release and veto'd WoW until now. EQ2 is just to plain IMO, Blizzard has done a phenominal job at keeping their customers, and this game is deffinit proof of it.
But that Gnomeregan boss fight is the shit. If you run around pressing all the buttons on the sides of the machines, you can stop the bombs from comming out. Better then any boss fight in EQ2 ive done so far, and both my characters are the same levels, 30 and 33.
Im pretty much thinking of letting EQ2 lapse, i cant see myself continueing it. Its to dull. WoW has a bigger world, more places to fight, more quests, their quests are more intreging, theirs actaully PVP (i play on a pvp server, its to cool, and its horde VS alliance, not a FFA like eq pvp servers), the game is faster paced, and there is deffinitly more content for lower levels, including massive and fun boss fights as well as instance battles. And i can deffinitly say i do not miss EQ2's graphics, WoW is beautiful in its own way, their artists are amazing. Now only if Blizzards artists and EQ2 graphic engine could team up...

Because WoW is a sweet game, if you're a teenager who's impressed by bright colors.. or a fanboy.
Maybe it's just me though, but I enjoy the challenge of EQII, I like having to run quests in order to visit new places. Sure, there's a lot of problems with EQII but it's no different than WoW with their player balancing issues.

Have not yet tried WoW, so I realize I'm a little one sided here. As a casual gamer, I like EQ2. It gives me the EQ1 feel that I enjoy, but allows me the freedom to be a casual gamer. In EQ1, if I got bored or couldn't find any groups/raids/whatever, I could either play an alt, work on tradeskills (a bummer if I ever saw one....farm a gazillion pieces of whatever, sit around by a tradeskill place and MAYBE see a skill increase), or log out. In EQ2, I can solo, I can group, or I can work on tradeskills and solo quests. One thing I'll give Sony...they certainly seemed to put the "Quest" back into "Everquest". Quest experience seems to be greater than group/kill experience. I could hunt with a group for hours and get half the experience from fighting as I do from completing the quest that we're fighting for. The tradeskill system seems better to me, although I'm still a lower level tradeskiller. That might change with time.
I'm blessed in that I have a group of IRL friends/family that I can pretty much hang out with in most every game I play. I have the freedom of being able to find groups when I want them, and be alone when I want to. EQ2 gives me that flexibility where EQ1 can't.
WoW might be a better game, but I've found EQ2 suits my erratic play style better than EQ1 does, and still gives me a sense of what I get when playing EQ1. Deciding what game is best is really going to depend on what a person wants out of the game, and not what sales numbers or statistics will show.

Respect for Blizz? ROFLcakes with some LOLtopping.
DIABLO 2 CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER!~!
pfft~
Tradeskilling in EQII is much better, but if you're considering starting one, don't go Provisioner until they fix it with the big patch. Provisioner skills don't work (I'm a 20 Woodworker, but used Provisioner skills to make food for skill ups when I ran out of wood), and you have a better success rate spamming the counters rather than using them when appropriate.

Yeap, EQ2 pwns WoW in a few thing. One of those is their tradeskill system. The other is their choice of classes, WoW is limited. But its an endless debate.Tradeskilling in EQII is much better, but if you're considering starting one, don't go Provisioner until they fix it with the big patch. And Diablo 2 sucked ass after like....a month of playing it.

The only raw numbers for experience you get in EQ2 is a percentage out of 100% you are into your level. Once you reach 100% you gain a level just like in EQ1.
However you do get raw numbers for your status points.
On the issue of published number here are some things you can get from http://www.eq2players.com which lists the achievements for your characters and how you rank out of everyone.
Game Discoveries 0 - Rank (Worldwide) 218,720
That says to me that there are at least 218,720 characters all over the multiple servers to account for 218,000 different ranks.
Having said that i can look at another character which has a Discovery number of 0 as well which shows a rank of 633,057. That character however has not been played for a while. There are some inconsistencies in this data, but it is the closest thing i have found to real numbers of characters in EQ2.

You get better success rates spamming skills for any classes. The only thing responding correctly gives you is taking less damage/power drain and maybe a very small penalty. Tradeskilling is very much like playing an EQ1 bard at the moment.Provisioner skills don't work (I'm a 20 Woodworker, but used Provisioner skills to make food for skill ups when I ran out of wood), and you have a better success rate spamming the counters rather than using them when appropriate.
Provisioner is actually too easy at the moment in my opinion.

Rsak, unfortunately the number of player accounts cannot be accurately deduced from a count of characters. I have 3 characters on my EQ2 account, for example. If you're interested, take a look at http://mmogchart.com
