New Season of Rome
I enjoyed the season premiere. They are definitely setting up the whole Antony VS Octavius thing quite nicely.
Best quote:
Antony: I'm not getting out of this bed until I F* something.
Damn, if he wasn't so hot.

Eh.
The gay sex ruined it for me. And the whole nut-severing thing.
That shit just ain't cool.

Well, I was wondering when they'd GET to the gay sex parts since last season I don't recall there being any gay sex except for Servilia and Octavia.
I'm enjoying the season. I like that Octavian finally bitchslapped his mother. The fight between he and Marc Anthony which ensued after was also rather entertaining. They really are making Marc Anthony out to be a scum-sucking asshole this season. Last season he was almost tolerable as Caesar's loyal captain . . . but now that he's going unchecked, he's turned into a real turd. Just a matter of time before he goes crying to Cleopatra for a little help. I do know that somewhere in there, though, he marries Octavia (who stays loyal to him to the end for some unknown reason.)
I do like Cleopatra, though. She's not terribly attractive physically (historically speaking I think she was never called a real beauty,) but her confidence and guile make her mega-hot.

I love her. I think I'll enjoy the show more when Casaer comes home and we get to see more Cleo.Alluveal wrote:I do like Cleopatra, though. She's not terribly attractive physically (historically speaking I think she was never called a real beauty,) but her confidence and guile make her mega-hot.
The season really felt like it was off to a great start (maybe that was just me being excited about there being a second season) ...then the last two episodes were really, meh.

Re:
They all die in the end, and Rome gets burned a few dozen times. Sorry for the spoiler.

Getting ass-raped, flogged, ass-raped, flogged and ass-raped again, tends to drum up sympathy for any character.Alluveal wrote:I watched the latest episode last night. Looks like a few years passed because they have a new, older Octavian (and some whiney puke who has no respect mouthing off to him half the time.)
I actually feel sorry for Servilia. Hrrmmmm.....
Except Attia. And speaking of Attia, why are there no more Attia boobage scenes? There were a couple in the first season, then nothing. I keep waiting for Marc Antony to try and milk those funbags, but so far, there hasn't been any sighting of those zip-code bearing mammaries for quite some time.
What gives?
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

It's picking back up for me, but I AGREE the new Octavian has none of the air the last one did nor personality. He blows, blows, blows.Sinaiel wrote:I am still really annoyed by changing the actor that plays Octavian, but I am loving this season.
They would have been better off getting that guy that played Doogie Howser (Neil Patrick Harris?) to play him, because he'd look more like him and the old Octavian did remind me of Doogie Howser. The new guy SUCKS. I can't stand him, he doesn't come off nearly as intelligent.

See, I am totally digging the new Octavian. I think the last one was great, but they needed to move things ahead a little and the kid couldn't have played an adult, imho. Octavian IS devious and you can see it in his political maneuvering (lest we forget cicero? and Octavian taking over Consul of Rome?) He's just being pushed around a bit by Anthony, but I foresee that changing soon. He'll come into his own.
The one gripe I did have was how they offed Brutus. I thought he committed suicide. The way they played it out was that he ran bravely into battle and died. I never thought Brutus did anything worthy of heroism. Could be wrong, though.

And yes, the scene with Pullo and Cicero was great. It shows that the Romans didn't seem to blink an eye in regard to murdering someone.
They have a LOT to do in a few episodes and I have a feeling the show won't be renewed. They axed Deadwood (and we all know what these limey bastards did to Carnivale.)
I do wonder when Atia will pee herself when Octavian offers his sister to Marc Anthony as a marriage token. Though I believe this is only the first Triumvirate and a falling out is to occur, followed by a second triumvirate. Anyway, Roman history is fuzzy. Maybe there's an expert out there.
