The Prestige

Post by Finglefinn »

Really great. Better than The Illusionist. I really like Christian Bale as an actor and he was very good in this film. His best film is still American Psycho, but this one was well done. David Bowie was pretty good as well, for a small part. Hugh Jackman was good. Scarlett Johanson's role was fairly unimportant to the script, but her class brought a better quality to the film overall. And MIchael Caine was good as usual.

My grade: A-

Loved the plot. The twists were nice and the story cleaned itself up neatly so you understood it easily when everything was revealed.

I didn't think it was horrible, but I'll watch anything Ed Norton is in.

The Illusionist was not horrible. It was more a love story than a twisted, mind-bending film. If you were expecting the latter, Walrus, than I understand why you thought it was horrible.

The Prestige was still way better.

Well, my problem with the Illusionist was that as soon as she died, I knew exactly what was going on, ie that they were faking her death so she could escape. And that was like 45 minutes in, so I just sat there being pissed.

Did you figure out Prestige at about a hour and a half when the machine was completed?

I didn't mind the Illusionist, but I think they pawned it off as this "OMGZORZ, We're gonna see Chris Angel type stuff and REAL MAGIC!!" When it was just a dressed up love story.

I haven't seen the Prestige. It's in my netflix queue, though. Anything with Hugh Jackman. =)
