Did you like The Passion, Walrus? I hated it and I'm skeptical about Apocalypto.

My dislike for The Passion, is what kept me from this one too, so I am very curious too.

Mel can be such a loon.

eh I am ambivalent about The Passion, not my cup of tea but not that bad of a movie. Apocalypto was pretty amazing though.

I didn't mind the Passion. The cinematography was awesome as was the chick who played Satan.

I like Mel's movies. Loved Braveheart. I'll see Apocalypto. Have other crap to watch first.

okay, fine. The thing with Apocalypto is that it is the most intense movie you'll ever see. Also, you share exactly the same feelings as the main character because for a lot of the beginning part of the movie you're saying "wait, wtf is going on, why are those guys doing that to those other guys?" which is exactly what the main character must be thinking. The movie grabs you by the ears and screams in your face, but you love it. This movie could have really gotten some huge buzz if Mel hadn't killed it with his drunken antics.

I wasn't impressed at all with the movie. It was a car chase set in a jungle.

Completely off topic, but.. if Mel's next move on the top of his list of insanely ridiculous ideas is to do what Bruce Willis is doing with Die Hard and make ANOTHER fucking sequel to his "timeless" Lethal Weapon series, I swear to god I'm going to punch a puppy.

In the face, even.
Make love? Fuck that, I'll make a slut cry. Fuck that, I'll make a slut cum nine times.

Not just Bruce, but Sly is doing too.

P.S. I've heard that "car chase in the jungle" reference elsewhere. Thing is... I thought that aspect of it was pretty awesome.

In fact, I thought the whole movie was pretty good. The whole "Devil/Signs/End Is Coming" whatever thing they had going was awesome. That kid thing was pretty creepy. Especially considering the ending.

I do have a question though and...

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW ***

The ships at the end. There were 4 of them right? And it is implied that was Columbus showing up (To complete that whole Devil/Signs"). Weren't there 3 ships originally? Just curious.

I assumed it was Cortes.

it wasn't meant to be anyone in particular. Cortes killed the Aztecs, not the Mayans.

Cortez' first exerience with native peoples was with the Maya. He first landed in the Yucatan. Only later did he turn toward Aztec lands, where he unleashed hell.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

yah you're right, I was debating whether to edit my post to reflect the correct viewpoint but then I stopped caring. But anyway, it COULD have been Cortez, I just don't think it was meant to be him.

What was wrong with the Passion? I mean, you can argue with the underlying theology, but it's a hell of a film. Good acting, good cinematography, very immersive.

Apocalypto is a well done movie, but ultimately it had very little substance.

I was simply a glimpse into life at that time with ritual sacrifice and the efforts of one man to save his family set at the time of change and the arrival of the conquering Europeans. It was fluff unless you were a huge Mayan buff.
