Safari for Windows?

Post by Riggen »

Well, it may have been out for a while already but it just came to my attention today that Apple is making its Safari browser available for Windows. In fact I'm posting with the beta right now.

I'm used to Firefox and there are certain extensions I've gotten used to, but I figure Safari is worth a try. Anyway, if you want to try it out just hit http://www.apple.com/safari and pick your poison.

We'll see how it goes.

Just hit the news media today, so I don't think its been around too long.

... so if IE still has 75% of the market share, and Safari has 8%... how many of the IE machines are also using Firefox?

Apparently at least 7 bugs have already been found.

Verdict is leaning toward a pass. It's fast as advertised, but it seems like that's all it's got going for it. Firefox stays king.

I must be part of the minority, but ive tried it and It hangs up and completely freezes on my computer causing me to use the task manager to close it.

I have an athlon64 3500 chip and 2G of Ram and im not running anything else...so...i dunno...
Thats the only thing making me stay with firefox for now.

Those numbers look bogus..you sure they're still not counting the people that have IE installed (because its always installed) but don't use it?

Those numbers are about right. They are taken from the web site hits, not from installed base.

For example, on my sites combined:

http://www.chase.net.au/awstats/awstats.pl?config=chase

IE is around 70%, and I consider Rants to be pretty strongly geekish and Firefox-ish.

I guess I just always figured Firefox had a bigger base than that. I know Firefox 2.0 was a huge deal, seemed like more than 20-25% of people were actually using it.

Numbers rarely lie, though.
