iphone
http://www.apple.com/iphone/
I've never been too interested in Apple stuff, but the phone caught my eye. I do like how they said they've changed materials so it'll be more scratch resistant.
Still, I'd wait...
Anyone else believe there will be a second, slimmer version after about a year?

Hrm. I never use voice, I always dial or memorize the numbers and dial blindly.
It is expensive, yes. Another good reason to wait awhile. The price should go down and the model should become slimmer or change. Wouldn't buying a separate ipod and a really nice phone be around the same price? (I'd expect the iphone to be slightly more since it is combining the two technologies)
But, I'm not too up on cellphones or the costs for a nice one... I'm using an old Nokia. So old, I don't see it on the website anymore.

There's been some concern about battery life, especially given the battery is built into the unit and not replaceable/expandable like most cell phones. I'm not sure what the expected lifetime actually is, but as you say it's definitely going to vary based on usage.
The iPod batteries last a long time, but I'd suspect the real battery draw on the phone would be the large screen, not the CPU.

[quote]CUPERTINO, California—June 18, 2007—Apple® today announced that iPhone™ will deliver significantly longer battery life when it ships on June 29 than was originally estimated when iPhone was unveiled in January. iPhone will feature up to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback.* In addition, iPhone will feature up to 250 hours—more than 10 days—of standby time. Apple also announced that the entire top surface of iPhone, including its stunning 3.5-inch display, has been upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity.

I wouldn't buy an iphone simply because I don't like the look of it. In fact, I prefer the look of LG's Prada phone. However, being one of the first to buy a new cell phone innovation (hai 2u lg chocolate phone) in the past.. I think I'll wait until the kinks are worked out of these new fully touch screened phones, cause the touch buttons on my phone are heat activated, and if the phone gets hot they simply do not work.

I paid $632 for my PDA, and from what I've seen the iPhone will do everything my PDA does. Considering the functionality I don't think it's necessarily super overpriced. I plan on getting the 8GB one. Maybe I am missing something?

I guess I'm just old fashioned. I don't expect my phone to do anything other than make and take calls, and keep a phonebook. As long as it's compact, durable, and has good battery life (my current phone goes a week between charges with normal use) I'm happy. I don't need music playback. I don't need a bluetooth headset. Although my phone supports it and I admittedly sometimes use it for reading news when bored, I don't really need Internet access through it either.
If given an iPhone I'd use it. I might even use it for more than just phone calls. But I'd never spend the money for it.

That is, until you have a phone which can use the internet. In which case, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. I use mine to look up movie times and shit constantly.Select wrote:I too, have no use for internets on a phone >.<

It may be convenient... but the price for data packages are simply not worth it unless you are having a business pay for it.
What they need is true wireless internet around the major cities and its the same account whether it is PC, phone, or PDA that tracks your usage and charges a reasonable rate. Right now the structure is either not in place or entirely too expensive.
