Already beat it. Basically its almost like playing a movie. I played through on normal, couple friends of mine beat it on Legendary in 8 hours the night it came out. There are different things in the Legendary ending this time, so playing through it on Legendary is well worth it.

Legendary Ending Spoiler: Can we say Halo 4 in the future?
As far as intriguing platform 1st person shooters for the xbox, Halo 1 and 2 were awesome. I got rid of my box before Halo 2 came out and I only played it once. The campaign in Halo 1 was great. Everything I have heard about 3 is that it is great, but the campaign is much easier than 2 was. Really excellent graphics. If I was 10 years younger than I am now, I'd probably be up all night playing it.
I know there is co-op in 2, and would bet good money that they have it in 3. The Halo 2 storyline was pretty short. It seemed like they introduced too many new characters/heros and relied on being able to play the covenant as the main selling point. I finished through the campaign with a friend in only 5 hours if I remember correctly. Meh.

I've heard that the solo campaign on Halo 3 is 8 hours or so playtime, tops. Halo 1 took me forever, if I remember right, 12 or 14 hours. And everyone I talked to about 2 was anywhere from 8 to 15 hours. I wouldn't be surprised if they made 3 easier.
Halo 3 definitely has co-op, and replayability in the activation of the "skull" thingies which make levels harder so you can get bonus kudos on xbox live.
What's the big deal in regards to beating it on legendary, anyway? What does it change?
I just finished it today in about 7 hours with a buddy on co-op play. It's an alright game, but I think the other two were better.

Halo 3 is shorter and easier then 2. You only play as Master Chief in the story and the Arbiter is your BFF and a fucking bullet sponge because he loves getting hit and dying.
Halo 1 was challenging and there were moments of 2 being challenging, but the challenge in 3 was weak unless you were doing legendary or using the skulls. Coop is in and a pretty interesting feature especially when used with the theater which records all your play sessions (3d data so maybe 10 to 100 mb depending on play length) as well as allowing you to move the camera around and look at things from the enemies point of view. To follow the story you really need to pay attention to the cutscenes and some of the comments by arbiter during the missions. The brutes were much better then in Halo 2, but the Flood suffered greatly.. The new forms were irritating and not very challenging.

At the end of Halo 3 they finally fire a Halo ring well outside of the galaxy at the ark (which is building a replacement for the destroyed Delta Halo) and then try to use a teleportation bubble to get back to earth, but it dissipates while the ship is halfway through leaving the rear of the ship somewhere else. Arbiter comes back to and they memorialize the fallen in the war and arbiter takes the elites back to their homeworld. Master Chief and Cortana plant a beacon, but their location is unknown. Master Chief goes back into hibernation and tells Cortana to wake him if needed.
Legendary ending shows the half of the ship falling towards a metal planet and foreboding music.
Speculation: Master Chief and Cortana have been sent back in time for Master Chief to be the forerunner which was never really answered why Guilty Spark was always referring to him as such. There probably will be another game, but it will not be called Halo because they were only created to combat the Flood which will likely not exist yet.
I would give it 8 or 9 out of 10 because the campaign was weak in my opinion and it was too short. The 8th mission seemed to suffer from the time crunch and some of the transitions illustrate it.

You discover that there is more than one Halo. That's about it minus a bunch of tedious story and character introduction.
