If not for the National Enquirer (of all rags) this guy could have become President. Well... maaybe that's a stretch, but the Nat'l Enq. sure didnt help matters for Mr. Edwards. This guy was full of himself, was willing to throw his daughter under the bus for his political career. His desire to be President consumed his humanity. And this is why character counts. If someone will fuck over a newborn daughter for political expediency, do you really want someone like this as President?
Marital infidelity, tax cheating, whatever. For those of you that seem to think that anyone (Repub or Dem) can be a good leader and be a bad person.. think again. Weaknesess in a personal life can easily bleed over to a public life.

With what it takes to become President, I'd be shocked if there weren't skeletons of similar nature (but probably not scale) in every contender's closet. McCain certainly had a good share of them. Bill Clinton... well... do we need to say more? GWB had substance abuse issues that he covered pretty well. etc. etc.
