Project 1999

Post by ploxnthox »

Was just taking a trip down EQ memory lane and figured I'd post about Project 1999 while I'm here.
Relive the classic Everquest MMORPG Gaming Experience as it was in 1999 and onward. Project 1999 is a free to play Emulated Everquest Server giving Players the opportunity to experience Classic EQ Once again, starting with the original 3 continents and a max level of 50, with the look and feel of the old interface and several modifications making game mechanics similar to how the game used to be. Project 1999 is the best and most popular classic Everquest experience.
Server population tops 600 (all unique players) during prime-time and is continually growing. It's actually down until April 16th because they are switching servers/data centers to handle the increasing population. Unlike other emulated servers, there is no multi-boxing allowed, and the server from my experience is cheat free. Low level population is very large also. Current progression is Classic + Hate + Sol Ro Temple. Kunark is expected sometime this fall, along with Sky and The Hole at some point. Velious is estimated as approximately a year after Kunark. They are really taking the classic and timeline aspects seriously. Rubi BP, Manastones, and DE masks were recently taken out of the game, old cities / zones are active, using old models, etc. The developers really put a lot time and effort into making sure everything works.

Check it out if you're interested:

Also, there was an article recently written about it on tentonhammer:

Why would they take Manastone out?! So much for 'classic'!

Sorry, I should rephrase that - those items recently stopped dropping, while the existing dropped items remained in the game. That's how it was in classic, so that how it is on p99. There are still plenty of manastones floating around and you can snag one for about 30k; although I would imagine with their lack of function in the planes and in kunark content that the price will drop in coming months. Most people I know that have them are trying to unload them while they still have some usefulness.

There was really no reason to make them stop dropping back in 1999, looks like project 1999 is just going to follow all of the mistakes EverQuest made exactly as they made them.

I really didn't like DDO. Was too much like Morrowind/Oblivion for me, both of which I thought were awful.

Fuck P99...there is WAY too much favoritism and people turning a blind eye to foul play for it to be worth playing anymore. If you make the slightest comment about stuff being done improperly they ban you, but you can totally troll the forums and piss off other players all day long, as well as KS/train people in game with little to no consequences.

So in other words, it's basically just like Everquest.

I dunno, I've been playing it for a week or so, and I've had a blast. Yeah, there is some bullshit, but it's basically the same bullshit I had to deal with in regular EQ. As far as shit being a little buggy, it's not too bad. I've suggested a few things, and I've either gotten a "we're working on that" or a "Oh, didn't know that was an issue." Haven't really received a hostile reaction at all from anyone.

It's a bit worse as far as the blind eye and favoritism goes, and the raid target system for guilds taking turns and 'camp rules' are abysmal.

Yeah, the favoritism is kinda annoying. Heard they're starting to crack down on shit now though, since their server population is starting to become increasingly aware of it. Haven't seen anyone recently banned for offering suggestions or whatnot. Don't know what to tell you there.

This whole "Need FRAPS to report training incidents" is kinda retarded.

I've been told there was some issues with item duping in like, May that they corrected. They removed the items, but the extreme amount of plat stayed in, so the prices are a little high on some things.

The "play nice" policy for end game and camps just shows way too much GM involvement in player activities. Personally, I think players should be the ones to make up their rules as needed, but that's just me. I'm betting once Kunark comes out, things will ease up a bit. Probably far too many high level players to cater to all of them at once.

With that said, it is actually a lot of fun. The community is about 3 to 1 cool to douchebag ratio. Most people are pretty nice and are fun to group with. If you're looking for a nice diversion from Lich King farming, this wouldn't be a bad choice.

I got sick of Lich King farming a while ago. The reason they don't have the players decide how things work is because a lot of their staff is in Inglourious Basterds and they want everything handed to them. The GMs fucking around with illusions is one of my biggest problems. Some of the illusions shut off your attack (froglok, for instance, since it wasn't actually available during classic). I was running around charming undead in EC, handing them LGuk drops that no one wanted, and telling newbies that the ghoul stole my shit, after getting it raid buffed, of course. Some 25 Troll SK almost got killed because he couldn't attack it back.

Also, I got banned from the forums for a month for 'trolling the dev staff' because apparently they have no flaws. The novelty wore off pretty fast...the game isn't the same without the community.

Ckador had the idea of making a guild specifically to grief and harass people...was going to call us Enshadowed. I told him we should just make a guild full of people that are utterly terribad at the game and call ourselves Sphere of Honor...oh what 24+ straight hours of camping AC in SRo will do to you...

It was nice to play for a while and relive some of the old memories...maybe I'll play again when Kunark is out, as I do miss Seb, and I definitely miss everything from Velious, but that's over a year away. Just isn't the same with everything being engraved into my memory, though.

Search for "Neekah" on "Feathermoon" on the Armory.

Personally I took out my WoW sigs because I thought I was done forevers... little did I know I would want to kill LK so bad.

So, I quit P99 completely. If anyone playing on there wants to dick around on my 50 near-fully planar Magician lemme know. Also have like 200k worth of random shit on alts spread across different accounts (Druid, SK, Necromancer, Bard).
