She got railroaded. Vilsak threw her under the bus and he's a political shitsucker for doing so. Her comments were taken entirely out of context, and edited for dramatic effect. There's no excuse for that... no excuse at all. Fox News should be chastised for that.

Vilsak should apologize and reinstate her. And whoever edited the video should be exposed as a person (or group) that fucked over one person to portray something that never really happened for political expediency.

And the person at the White House that drove this issue should identify themselves and apologize too. It doesn't look so good that the NAACP, which condemned Sherrod at first, and then apologized later after the unedited video surfaced and showed the context of her comments, is now at odds with the White House. They now support her in lightof the new evidence... the White House is still in denial.

On a semi-related topic.. this seems to be the predictable response from the White House... knee-jerk over-reaching. They did it with the Christmans bomber, they did it with the moratorium on drilling, and now they are doing it with Sherrod. Shame on the White House as well.

At the time of my original post, I wasn't sure if AB got suckered in with the rest of them. Now it appears he still stands by his story, which is reprehensible after the un-altered version came out.

That said... Breitbart's sin is posting an edited version of a video. And when he did so, the Obama administration freaked out, not bothering to check the video, and forcing Sherrod to pull over from driving to email a resignation. That's a bigger sin... to be played to make a stupid reactionary move without investigation and evaluation. Vilsak demanded her resignation because he knew Beck was going to air the story that night. So the right-wing machine played the Obama admin as puppets.

Sure, Breitbart is an ass in all of this... but he's just an ass. The Obama admin is running the country, not a website. And this has been the typical response of trigger-happy Obama admin officials (including Obama himself) when they find themselves behind what they perceive as themselves behind the public 8-ball. They over-reacted on the drill moratorium, they had to walk back new emergency regulations resulting from the Christmas fiasco... they just don't know how to manage the crisis Emmanuel says shouldn't be wasted. And they look like fools.. out of control, reactionary, fools. Spending trillions of dollars.

It's also really important to point out that if CNN hadn't quickly debunked the smear against Sherrod the Republican propaganda networks would still be attacking her. We'd have been treated to a week or more of non-stop commentary about racists and radicals in the Obama Administration, just like they've spent weeks flogging the Black Panther story and numerous other fear based bullshit story lines.

Van Jones was a radical communist working within the Administration. A man blaming White people for poisoning Black Neighborhoods, Screaming "give them the wealth" (in reference to American-Indians) and an overall hateful person.

Shirley Sherrod was a misguided woman telling a story of racism and how it had affected her life and how she learned from one specific moment. She learned that race doesn't matter because we're all human beings and we all need help sometimes.

These are polar opposites. You're only showing how distorted your world view is by equating them.

Beyond that: Beck lead the charge on Van Jones and only Fox News news folks later joined the wagon. Megyn Kelly was first to report on Shirley Sherrod in cable news and it wasn't just FNC that ran with the story (And you should note that your most hated FNC individual (Beck) didn't run the story at all that night or blast Sherrod at all after that).

The Shirley Sherrod story is peculiar. How it came out, how it blew up almost instantly and the resolution... something is odd about all of that.
