I <3 Google+
I don't actually believe it to be a "Facebook Killer" as I think Facebook actually has a pretty good model, but it's pretty fucking awesome & the first thing I've seen from anyone that I think actually puts a frown line in Zuckerbergs brow. I've been been doing the "Hangout" feature with my climbing friends all weekend. Love the circles too!

The circles thing is something Facebook desperately needs in an easily accessible format. What I really want is for something to just come along and put Twitter out of its misery.

If they open it up and get some TV networks on board it'll take off... So far it seems pretty restricted and tons of people want to get on it, if they don't capitalize on that then it's gonna be a failure just like Buzz was.

I agree, they are going for the "Ooo it's exclusive" desire point, but that's played out. I want to be able to do Hangout's with my family & college friends. Oh and word to the wise, don't let people you don't know add you. Cause then your list of "People you may know" gets retarded big real fast.

First thing I did was lock it down as well as I could so I couldn't be found by anyone.

I got invited like 3 days ago.. still can't sign up for it. Pretty annoying that even people with invites can't get in.

I got a lot of people in with the + them to a post backdoor they had for a few days, but they sealed it up quick. And they just changed some stuff to make it more secure. Still diggin it & the android app is crazy cool

Re: I <3 Google+
Just got in today. I'm REALLY liking the interface of it all. Need to get used to it and get some more friends in my circles, but so far so good. I'll probably let my account sit idle for a long while to let the site mature before I start really using it, however. Downloading the android app now.

It's still got quite a way to go before it's as intuitive as Facebook though. Too many issues trying to do simple shit, like upload a profile photo from another album. While I'm using it (and the android app is pretty nice) I'm still not all that impressed with it, but we'll see. I like the huddle feature. Feel free to add me if you want. http://gplus.to/sybaritictrance

Re: I <3 Google+
My account was banned because of my refusal to put in my real name. Here's what I replied to them when they asked me why I was leaving.
Why am I not too keen on other people, specifically social media sites, controlling the availability of my personal information on the internet? Paranoid? Maybe, but when I read stories like THIS I don't feel bad about making it a little more difficult for any psycho who might not agree with my opinion to find me. I've had the same persona in Gmail for almost 10 years now so I hope Google takes one from Twitter's playbook & changes this policy so that I may return.

I'm afraid to try it. I wouldn't really care if they banned my g+ account for whatever reason, but I can't afford to have it take my gmail account with it.

I'm on Google+ (thanks Tax) but I've never done much with Gmail. We use a private email provider at work and I can send whatever the hell attachments I want with no restrictions, and if it doesn't work I can pick up the phone and say "hey Dave, why doesn't my email work".Bahd Zoolander wrote:I'm afraid to try it. For home email I use Comcast and we give them like $300 a month so they love us. I've never interacted with a free email provider so I don't know what kind of service they provider. My wife has used Hotmail for almost 15 years and I know lots of people who swear by both Hotmail and Gmail (and Yahoo, etc.) I guess I want some sort of official assurance about availability. We charge our clients by the hour so there's no way I get to be offline even for a minute.
I paid for a re-mailer (pobox.com) for 12 years and it was nice being able to plug that into any other accounts and have an "email for life", but they got unreliable so I dropped them. Besides, most people don't seem to use email these days, at least outside of work. I work at home so I send a bajillion of them. I email the same 10 people day in and day out.

Yeah, they specifically state that it won't have an effect on most google services. Like Gmail. Just some that I never use anyway like Buzz. As far as not using Gmail, wow. Losing G+ was one thing, I don't know what the fuck I'd do without Gmail. You crazy

I routinely send and receive 200-300 MB file attachments via email. Sometimes up to a gigabyte or more. I also have systems that send and receive lots of automated email. Gmail would trip the fuck out with some of the stuff we're doing.
As a user it's all the same to me. I take all my accounts and put them into MS Outlook 2010 and it pulls all my email into one giant inbox no matter where it came from.

Why? You could set up a Mediafire account or an account on some other site like it and just send links to each other.Freecare Spiritwise wrote:I routinely send and receive 200-300 MB file attachments via email. Sometimes up to a gigabyte or more.

I have clients who want to send and receive large data sets via email. I also have co-workers who still think that the Internet is this new-fangled thing. Some of these people would go back to punchcards and one shade of green on their monitors if they had a choice.Kulaf wrote:Why? Sometimes it's even convenient to wake up and sit in front of my desk to find out that while I was sleeping Outlook downloaded some huge attachment from a client in NY 3 hours ahead that's all ready to go first thing in the morning for me.
A few of my clients are more sophisticated. One of them gets a 500 MB ZIP file every night as an automated upload via SFTP (not to be confused with FTPS!) But yeah, I have the knowledge and expertise for all manner of internet protocols. Whatever the client wants, the client gets.

Re: I <3 Google+
Also, a couple of these clients are public companies. They'd rather not give me any data ever. There's no way in hell they would/could setup something like a secure FTP server, or if they have one they'd ever give me access to. Their whole orgainzation is setup to prevent data being transferred. They have to give me data for me to work on their systems, but they don't want to, so it ends up being a hassle every time.
Plus, most of the people I deal with on the client end are more administrative and actuarial and these are the people I am stuck with. The senior VP in charge of claims may know a hell of a lot about insurance but good luck teaching him anything more complicated than "right mouse click and choose 'send to mail recipient''.
